My walk and especially where it meets curb needs shoveling every time it snows, as does the area by my back door and in front of my garage.

Cars speeding off route 9 off ramps at new traffic light
  • 564 Hammond Street Brookline, Massachusetts - Newton
There is an insufficient amount of lighting on Hammond Street between the Chestnut Hill train stop and Route 9. This poses a problem when it rains, as the sidewalk is uneven and full of holes at places on both sides of the street, and this problem is exacerbated in the winter when ice and heavy snow make the sidewalks even more dangerous to walk on in the dark. I have seen people slip at night because they couldn't see the sidewalk properly. Most importantly, as a young woman, I feel in danger walking home alone on this street in the dark, because I have been approached by strange men who I can barely see, and I have felt like I was being followed a few times. I propose that at least 3 more streetlights be added to this section of Hammond Street.

View of oncoming traffic is obstructed by shrubs. Prior pruning effort did not improve visibility enough. Please trim further.
  • Intersection Of Lexington And Commonwealth Newton, Massachusetts - Newton
FREQUENTLY I find that the green turn light off of Commonwealth to Lexington is not timed appropriately. This results in a line of cars waiting to drive down Lexington lining up through the intersection because the Wolcott light is red. Frequently this causes unsafe driving and creative problem solving because cars are left out in the intersection as the Commonwealth light turns green and cars want to start driving.

There is currently no crosswalk between the West Suburban YMCA and the fire department/opposite side of the street. The road is extra wide and has both a hill and a turn so it's not always possible to see oncoming cars. This is a heavily foot trafficked area - I regularly see kids running this road to get to/from their after school programs at the Y. I personally have to run across this street each day and have had some close calls. I am requesting the addition of a crosswalk to at least alert cars that someone may be crossing.

  • 664 Walnut Street Newton, Massachusetts - Newton
Altho' it wasn't so great before trying to make a left from Walnut Street north onto Comm Ave., now with the left lane ONLY being for left turns, all traffic has to flow in the right lane. This backs up terrible and causes problems for people dropping books off in the niche lane for the library..they can't move until that traffic clears. Last week I had to wait two light cycles to get out of the library parking lot to go east on Walnut St....too many cars, too many people pulling in/out of the library lane. At least with the left lane being used for straight as well as left, the traffic moved--you just had to watch for some idiot trying to pass you on the right instead of turning left.
