    Dear Mayor Christenson and Board of Health of Malden,
    I’m reporting an environmental health issue an behalf of concerned residents from 260 Main Street Malden Mass.
    Since spring 2019, our neighboring lot owned by National Grid has been constantly serving as a construction site and depository for excavated wastes. It’s understandable that this site is used for occasional temporary projects. However, due to their constant usage for many months and on, the noise and waste dusts pose long term health hazards to our residents here in especially to kids and elderly.
    The excavated wastes are often stored here and the moved away before new wastes come again.
    My son has developed coughing for over a month. According to his pediatrician, it’s not cold related but due to irritation from environments.
    As a community we are very concerned about the long term impact on our health. Please look into this matter as soon as possible so that we can have it addressed.

    Myself, two boys and another male has been living in an illegal apartment. The property manager who lives on first floor, said he was given permission by the city for two tenants, and saying he needed to schedule an inspection for over a year now, has now decided to evict 2 of the 4 of us after confronting the issues. We have to use his mailbox and mailing address, they make us pay 3/4’s of the utilities, as we can’t set up our own. There is only one way in. No full windows to escape if a fire. Lack of smoke detectors and CO detectors. Mold has taken over the bathroom due to venting issues. He put a vent in, but he has it connected to the dryer vent- so it’s been no help. We will be addressing the issues in court, but would like proper authorities to come evaluate the situation here. It is very unsafe. Housing as been an issue, so we will need help with resources.

    Roach infestation
    Homeless People wandering in and out because door lock is broken
    Pool has been shut down by board of health for over a year-still no fix.
    Mold in units and laundry rooms
    Trash left outside doors
    Elevators constantly broken
    ALMOST ON A WEEKLY BASIS IS THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HERE TO TURN OFF AN ALARM SYSTEM CLEARLY THE MANAGEMENT COMPANY HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT SINCE THERE ARE HAZARDS IN THE BUILDING THAT THEY DON'T ADDRESS-EVEN FIREFIGHTERS HAVE ASKED WHERE MANAGEMENT IS.

    Dear Malden Department of Public Health and Department of Engineering,

    The property owned by National Grid is being used as a dumping ground of construction wastes/soil for the past several days. Did they get the license to do this? In 2019, they spent several months dumping wastes and using the spot as a temporary depository for excavated wastes. The dust and noise are hazardous to residents of 260 Main Street (right next to the national grid property). Upon protests from Uptown Condo residents in 2019 and investigations by Mr. Chris Webb and Department of Engineering. They stopped doing that. Now they seem to be back. Could you please look into this? Thank you!

    At the back of the property, there is a retaining wall that helps support the hillside where homes are perched above. A section of this wall has been in disrepair for many years, and in the rainstorms of the past month, it has eroded significantly. I am notifying you because I feel this change has escalated this issue from being an eyesore to presenting a danger to multiple properties in the neighborhood. The erosion has left a section of the fence for the property above entirely unsupported, making that potion of their yard unsafe. Future storms could easily erode the slope further, potentially damaging their building. Additionally, it is now far more likely for this erosion to spread along the entirety of the retaining wall, endangering other houses on the hillside above. I have emailed the company that I believe manages the property about this issue (cc'd Malden DPW), but wanted to make sure the right people from the City are aware. Thanks!

    At the end of August the contractor dug up the sidewalk to change lead water pipes going into 26 Swan Street. They left a big pile of dirt and a cone on the sidewalk in front of that house. Please have the contractor who pulled the permit or the new owner of the house remove the dirt and debris and repave the sidewalk where they dug it up which I am sure is part of the permit process. Rocks from this project are going all over the street. Doesn’t Malden reinspect properties after permit work?
    Please have the water engineers take care of this hazard and eyesore. The house was sold on August 31st.

    Someone cut down trees and brush across the street from 450 Broadway on Friday last week. We assume it was the company that manages the billboard sign. No one has picked up the debris. It's an eye sore and we are worried it will be a fire hazard since it's drying out quickly in the sun.

    People are smoking on the tennis courts, right next to the Amerige playground and their second hand smoke is wafting over to the playground where small children are being exposed to it.

    This is a very bad corner. People do not stop at stop sign and because you cant see around the fence you cant avoid the collision. In all fairness too cars coming from everett street cant se if a car is flying up maude street either. I have seen one accident here already and several close calls. I have also seen some pedestrians almost get struck.
