    On Friday November 30th at approximately 9:45am I placed a call to the Mayors office to inquire about ownership/responsibility for a fallen tree at my property. I was transferred to the Park and Recreation department and spoke with the city employee who answered the phone, I did not get her name. When the conversation ended as I am going to hang up I hear the employee proceed to discuss our conversation with others in the office. I stayed on the line to listen as the employee spoke negatively about me. The comments I heard were inappropriate, un-professional and had what I perceived to be racial undertones. In particular the employee stated my name and suggested that I go to Walmart in my pajamas. "Yeah and her name is....., so, yeah, go to Walmart in your pajamas....." She laughed while commenting how bad she was being for making those statements. The conversation continued with some comment about my last name. I am writing this to express how upsetting this was. What a shame that a city employee would bring their racist ideals into the workplace. My name should have no bearing on how I'm perceived as a person or affect the level of customer service I can expect to receive when contacting the city. As Mayor, I hope you do not stand for this behavior from your staff and that this incident will be addressed promptly. As a taxpayer in this community I respectfully ask that you personally see that this matter is addressed. Perhaps diversity training is needed.
