  • Traders Ln Nantucket, Massachusetts, 02554 - Nantucket

Please see the attached photo images 5730 and 5731 of the Yellow No Parking Stripes on Traders Lane (downtown next to the Summer Street Church). As you can see in the photos someone has spray painted over a portion of the yellow stripes with black spray paint. This modification has the effect of extending the open space for parking along the lane from two spaces to three.

Please also see image 5732 showing the damage to our fence as a result of cars and/or delivery trucks trying to squeeze past the parked cars on the street or from cars trying to parallel park which happens when there are three cars parked there. This damage to our fence is a recurring problem. I have letters written to the town concerning this problem that go back decades.

Traders Lane is extremely narrow. Realistically, it is too narrow to allow for parked cars. The only way to park cars and allow safe passage is for the cars to park all the way on the sidewalk running alongside the church and to limit the parking to two cars. If there is three cars parked, the car parked in the middle of three cars can not pull out of their parking space without hitting our fence. Even if only two cars are allowed there and they are pulled all the way onto the sidewalk, no emergency vehicle could pass.

For these reasons, we would like to see the parking spaces on Traders Lane alongside the church removed all together. If that is not acceptable, at the very least we would appreciate the No Parking Stripes be repainted yellow, as they were prior to the vandalism.

One other option worth consideration is to only allow parking there on Sunday mornings when the church is holding service.

Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to your reply.

I would like to request a yellow line be extended outside my driveway on both sides. Cars are constantly parking where the view is completely obstructed on both sides when I’m trying to pull out. I cannot see traffic either end of a Cliff Rd. Twice this summer I have been parked into my driveway because cars have parked and partially blocked the entryway. The cars are also parking so close to the fence that it completely blocks the sidewalk and I’ve seen walkers/strollers having to walk in the street. We have been in the house for 10 years and every summer have the same issues. I’m very concerned by the lack of visibility due to the cars parking right up to the edge of the driveway on both sides.
  • Westchester And New Lane. Stucco House Nantucket Massachusetts - Nantucket
This is a picture of the corner of Westchester and new Lane. As you can see the curb is a sharp 90°. It’s very difficult to get around. You have to pull way out into the other side of traffic to make the right hand turn getting onto new lane. It would be nice if that corner could be rounded instead of a hard 90°.
  • In The Pink 5 S Water St, Nantucket, MA, 02554, USA - Nantucket
Driving on S. Water right before you cross Main Street is the sign shown in my photo. I was almost in an accident as the lady in the right lane chose to go straight instead of talking the right as required. Anyways can you please re-paint the line that used to exist on the cobble stones there showing there are two lanes. I think it would help .. especially in the summer..

what can we do to reduce speeding on our street? my children were almost hit again while out for a walk this afternoon.
  • Hummock Pond Rd & Vesper Ln Nantucket, MA, 02554, USA - Nantucket

The brush along the road (1 Somerset Rd property) at the Hummock Pond/Somerset Rd/Vesper Ln. makes it very difficult to see the Stop Sign. The brush needs to be cut back for safety.

Currently there is an intersection sign near 16/18 Hummock Pond Rd. I feel it should be replaced with a "Stop Ahead" sign -- it's just safer especially in the summer when folks aren't familiar with our roadways.

  • 5 First Way Nantucket, Massachusetts, 02554 - Nantucket
The stockade fence at this corner obstructs visibility both for those entering 1st way from Allen's but also makes it so cars traveling along 1st way to Hooper cannot see cars or pedestrians entering the road. I see tons on near misses especially at the start and end of school. Improved visibility and maybe a crosswalk is needed at this intersection. It's a busy pedestrian crossing.
  • 4 Fair Street Nantucket, Massachusetts, 02554 - Nantucket
There is signage for an accessible parking space across from 4 Fair Street and adjacent to the Land Bank Park. The accessible parking space requires striping to delineate the accessible parking space.
  • 18 Trotters Lane Nantucket, Massachusetts, 02554 - Nantucket

Request for No Parking zones -18 & 20 Trotters Lane.

I am the homeowner at 18 Trotters Lane, writing on behalf of myself and my neighbor at 20 Trotters lane. We are experiencing ongoing safety issues due to vehicles parked directly in front of our driveways, which severely obstruct our visibility when entering or exiting. This has resulted in multiple near- collisions with oncoming traffic.

Additionally, parked cars frequently block partial or full access to our driveways, making it difficult or impossible to safely enter or exit our properties.

To address this safety hazard, we respectfully request the installation of yellow no -parking curb markings and appropriate signage in front of both homes.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Sincerely,

    Michele LeMaitre

In July, I requested an accessible parking space across from 8 Cliff Road and I would like to cancel this request. Thank you.
  • 77 Easton St Nantucket, Massachusetts, 02554 - Nantucket
Please install a wheelchair accessible parking space in front of the Nantucket Hotel where the silver vehicle is parked. This parking space is the best location for an accessible parking space because it is directly in front of the hotel's accessible wheelchair lift and it is the shortest route to the accessible wheelchair lift.
  • 22 Federal St Nantucket, Massachusetts, 02554 - Nantucket
There are two accessible parking spaces on Federal Street near Broad Street. This is the accessible parking space closest to Broad Street. Please replace the dirt sidewalk with brick. People using ambulatory devices such as canes, walkers, crutches and wheelchairs have a difficult time navigating on this dirt sidewalk as they are exiting a vehicle. It is a hazardous situation for them and for elderly people who also park in the accessible parking space. Thank you.
