The walk lights at the Dalton Parkway/Broad Street intersection are not working. I’ve tried 3 different buttons, none of which resulted in a red light for the traffic nor did I get walk signals.
  • Boston St & Grove St Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem

There needs to be better signalling or traffic enforcement at the intersection of Grove St and Boston Street. It isn't hyperbole when I say that 3/4 times I'm turning left (on green, obviously) into Boston Street from Grove I almost get hit by a car barrelling through the traffic lights on Boston. I think part of the issue are cars turning right onto Boston St from Nichols St, unable to see that it's a red light nor the cars turning, with the right of way, onto Boston St.

Please do something about people running the red light. Please also do something so people turning from Nichols can safely make hat turn

  • Summer St & Essex St Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem
The traffic light at the intersection of Essex Street and Summer Street gives a walk signal at the same time that it gives a green light for vehicles to go. VERY DANGEROUS. And I see that someone else reported the same thing a week ago. This needs to be fixed asap before someone gets hit and killed.

47 Broad St Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem

A lot of drivers speed way above the speed limit when driving along Broad St. There are sometimes police cars nearby during the day to pull over speeding drivers, however the problem is extremely apparent when they are not present on any time of the day. Residents have often heard cars "racing" along Broad St.

Many residents find crossing Broad St. to be very unsafe as the current speeding checks are not being enforced enough. We would like to propose either a change in the Broad St and Dalton Pkwy traffic signal to impose frequent stops and/or a speed bump.

Even with the walk-button that the traffic light allows, cars still speed through if the pedestrian is not on their side of the road. There is widespread concern about the safety of this street.

22 St Peter St Salem, MA 01970, USA - City of Salem

At both the junction of Bridge Street/St Peters Street and Bridge Street/Washington Street there's an issue with the timing of the lights.

At both junctions I've seen this happen multiple times this week, most recently twice today Traffic heading north/south on Bridge Street will have a green in both directions, traffic heading north will then get a red, but traffic heading south still has a green for at least another ten seconds.

It would make sense if the green filter was activated at that time for traffic to turn left onto St Peters or Washington, but that's not happening. It's really weird to be stopped heading north on Bridge Street when traffic still has a green heading south.

Orne St. @ Rt 114 Salem, Massachusetts - City of Salem
The signal timing at the intersection of Rt 114 with Orne and School St. creates very long traffic lines at both sides of Rt. 114, while there are rarely more than 3-4 cars waiting on either Orne or School Str.
I attach a photo of the traffic jam on Rt. 114 North on the morning of 9/25 that extends all the way into downtown Salem.
More time needs to be given to Rt. 114 traffic.

132 Bridge St Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem
Bridge Street Speed Limit Enforcement. With no speed bumps, one traffic light, and houses very close to the street, it seems that Bridge Street speed limit should be reviewed, maybe dropped, and enforced. Traffic flies down Bridge. If we localized this stretch with stop signs, bike lane, larger shoulders maybe more thru-traffic would use the Bypass. Would love to learn more about how to help make these changes!

1a And Jefferson Ave Salem, Massachusetts - City of Salem
When we travel down Loring to this intersection early in the morning (4-5 a.m.), the light never turns green. I have to run a red light to get to Rt 1A.

It is time to add a pedestrian light at the crosswalk in front of the Salem Public Library. There are numerous close calls in which pedestrians are almost struck by drivers who refuse to follow the law to stop for people in the crosswalk. It is also not uncommon for cars that do stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk to be rear-ended by oblivious drivers. There used to be a warning barrel in the middle of the crosswalk - that should be brought back. Finally, police should monitor the crosswalk for a few days and pull over and fine those who fail to follow the law and stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk.

Hillside Ave & Witch Hill Rd Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem

Vehicles are ignoring the stop signs at the corner of Hillside Ave and Witch Hill Rd. This issue we have been complaining about for years with not much getting done about it. Hillside Ave (South of Witch Hill Rd.) and Witch Hill Rd. do not have pedestrian sidewalks with cars speeding and blowing through the stop signs. The issue is worse during rush hours 7 AM to 9 AM and 4 PM to 6 PM. This is a concern of most of the neighbors in the area. We have complained about this several times and it’s only getting worse.

    My suggestions;
    1) Waze, Google and other GPS route cars through this neighborhood as a cut through. There is a way to remove that info.
    2) Make Colbey Street and Proctor Streets One Way from. (One North One South)
    3) Every once in a while a Police Presence giving tickets out.

Next step will be to get a petition from all the residents signed and handed into the city.

Pedestrian light did not ever allow us to cross. We tried the button twice and waited through two cycles.

44 Broad Street Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem
Cars are using this road (Broad St) as a race track. All day cars zoom through this road, and often times they don't stop on a red light to let someone cross. This road is a huge hazard and it's in a residential area. Traffic should be redirected to a different road.
