Coming out of Salem Station Lights are not changing green to let people out of the parking lot. Also if you take a right out of this parking lot and turn left to go up to north st the lights are not changing there either I reported this one to the salem police last week and it is still this way. I pick up my son every day at the train station, what should take about 20 min now takes about an hour sometimes longer.
  • Highland Ave & Swampscott Rd Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem
The intersection of Swampscott Rd and Highland Ave has several issues related to cars turning north onto Highland.
1.) Because there is no right turn on red, this backs up the traffic on Swampscott Rd. There may not be a solution to this since there are homes up the hill and the entrance to the old Mazda dealership is there. But this is really the root of the problem.
2.) When the light finally turns green, the traffic on Highland can easily fill the left hand turn lane from Highland to Marlborough, preventing the backed up traffic on Swampscott Rd to progress.
Perhaps a better timing scheme could help at the two intersections. I’ve sat many times at the left turn lane from southbound highland to swampscott without any traffic coming from the northbound direction. Seems to allow northbound highland traffic through without considering the buildup of cars in the southbound left turn lane or the swampscott/highland right turn lane.
If a detailed study was done to improve the flow of traffic at first and swampscott, have any studies been completed at the swampscott/highland intersection in concert with the highland/Marlborough intersection?
Is the intent of the roundabout to direct people down first street to traders way to Marlborough to alleviate the congestion at swampscott/highland?

Washington St, St Peter's, and Bypass lights are wildly miss-timed and taking a long time to get through during commuting hours. I was almost hit by a Jeep running a red in frustration! Please fix.

Red bulb is not working on the southbound Loring Ave approach Green seems to be working
  • Bridge St Salem MA 01970, United States - City of Salem

It seems that the light timing at the Bridge St/Bridge St. and/or Bridge St./St. Peter St. intersection has changed.

Over the past month, traffic regularly backs up from this intersection to Washington St, preventing the right on green arrow for 2+ cycles at times.

Today at around 8am, it took 7-8 minutes to get from the Washington St./Bridge St. through the Bridge St./Bridge St. intersection. Traffic piling up in the opposite direction also appears to have increased, with cars lining up to the area closest to the March St overpass./

Can there be a sign at the top of the lights that signal to drivers at the right hand lane is to merge onto the ramp leading to Peabody? Too many cars will use the right hand lane and then attempt to cut into the left hand lane to go under the bridge and it’s causing traffic to back up during busy hours. I think that signage across the top of the light signals would maybe prevent Last minute lane switching. Especially during tourism seasons
  • 264-284 Canal St Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem
The crossing signal has been broken for months; tickets on ServiceNow reporting this back to 1/28/23. Why did it take two months for the city to diagnose the problem (broken solar panel) and how long will it take to remedy? Cars are not stopping for pedestrians as there is no signal- can there be a sign placed alerting drivers the lights are not working and to yield for pedestrians in cross walk? Seems crazy that a cross walk in a well traveled path in Salem has been unprotected for nearly three months and the city is failing to treat this with urgency.
  • Bridge St & Flint St Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem
Signals are flashing on all sides
  • 64 Flint Street Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem
    Pedestrian signal button non-functional
  • Commercial St & North St, Salem, MA 01970, USA - City of Salem
Pedestrian crossing is worn away and a stop sign is desperately needed. Bill's Auto and local construction vehicles take this turn at full speed and endanger children and dog walkers on the way to Leslie Park.
  • 190-198 Bridge St Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem
The lights near the old prison and intersection of old bridge and the bypass are not timed very well. Huge backups in morning rush hour.
  • Marlborough Rd & Osborne Hill Dr Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem

I am writing again to report that the traffic lights at Marlboro road and Osbornehill drive are once again malfunctioning. This issue was previously reported but has recurred, creating ongoing confusion and posing a significant danger to both drivers and pedestrians.

The recurring nature of this problem makes it even more urgent to address, as it increases the likelihood of accidents. Please investigate this matter thoroughly and implement a lasting solution.
