    Bridge Street Speed Limit Enforcement. With no speed bumps, one traffic light, and houses very close to the street, it seems that Bridge Street speed limit should be reviewed, maybe dropped, and enforced. Traffic flies down Bridge. If we localized this stretch with stop signs, bike lane, larger shoulders maybe more thru-traffic would use the Bypass. Would love to learn more about how to help make these changes!
  • Hillside Ave & Witch Hill Rd Salem, MA, 01970, USA - City of Salem

    Vehicles are ignoring the stop signs at the corner of Hillside Ave and Witch Hill Rd. This issue we have been complaining about for years with not much getting done about it. Hillside Ave (South of Witch Hill Rd.) and Witch Hill Rd. do not have pedestrian sidewalks with cars speeding and blowing through the stop signs. The issue is worse during rush hours 7 AM to 9 AM and 4 PM to 6 PM. This is a concern of most of the neighbors in the area. We have complained about this several times and it’s only getting worse.

    My suggestions;
    1) Waze, Google and other GPS route cars through this neighborhood as a cut through. There is a way to remove that info.
    2) Make Colbey Street and Proctor Streets One Way from. (One North One South)
    3) Every once in a while a Police Presence giving tickets out.

    Next step will be to get a petition from all the residents signed and handed into the city.

    The crosswalk buttons aren’t working. Pushing them does not result in a walk signal, nor does it change the traffic lights.

    This is a very dangerous intersection. Both Hanson and Grove streets get a green light to turn onto Boston St. at the same time when Boston St. traffic has a red light. If a Hanson St. driver is making a right-hand turn on the green, they cannot see the Grove St. drivers that are approaching and turning left in the same direction (and vice versa). I was a passenger in a vehicle that made a legal right turn on green from Hanson onto Boston St. and a Grove St. driver, who was turning left, almost hit us and assumed we ran the red light and proceed to road rage. Something needs to be fixed with this intersection--it's one of the worst in Salem.

    Cars are using this road (Broad St) as a race track. All day cars zoom through this road, and often times they don't stop on a red light to let someone cross. This road is a huge hazard and it's in a residential area. Traffic should be redirected to a different road.

    I was almost struck by a car yet again while crossing at the corner of Oliver street and Washington Square. This is a heavily used crosswalk by families and tourists. Traffic comes flying around the corner of Winter street and Washington Square and puts pedestrians in danger that are crossing at Oliver street.

    You really need to A) Put the traffic lights at Winter and a Washington Square on a cycle, B) Put stop signs there, or put a crossing light at Oliver street.

    I know if at least 3 accidents there in the last 2 years. One where a car blew through the intersection and crashed into a telephone pole on the common, and two where legally parked cars were rear ended by cars coming around the corner (how does that even happen?).

    Somebody is going to be seriously injured or killed if this isn’t addressed.

    Talks to control car speed happened more than a year and a half ago, but nothing has been done. When will changes be made to slow down traffic on Broad Street? Every hour cars race by. Even a SLOW sign or some traffic cones on the street would make a difference, but nothing's been done. Is this issue being ignored?

    The traffic light at the Pickman/Loring intersection is not functioning properly. Typically the light changes when a vehicle is waiting on Pickman Road. The light has been changing at regular intervals whether there is a vehicle waiting or not, resulting in a back up in traffic. At 5pm today traffic was backed up on Jefferson Ave to Dube's.

    The traffic signal takes about 5 to 7 minutes to turn green to pull out from Ravenna Ave. to Highland Ave. It is not cycling correctly. There needs to be a sensor for the lights for residents pulling out from Ravenna Ave. onto Highland Ave.

    Pedestrian crossing at tradfic lights, intersection North, Summer, Essex is DEADLY. All traffic needs to STOP, no roadway turns allowed, when pedestrians are crossing. This configuration is NEW and is not acceptable.

    the traffic sensor when turning from Webb to Bridge does not work at night unless you inch up far into the intersection. there is no reason cars should be waiting as long as they do in the middle of the night/early morning.
