The Freeway shoulder here is out of control. Trees and vegetation is causing a safety hazard and harboring homeless people.

This same location has had fires in the past when vegetation gets to tall and homeless make camp. this is going to happen again.

Received email from resident regarding the state of this exit and how awful it is. Please take a look at the area.
I'm not sure if your inbox is where this inquiry or concern should land, but I'm hopeful that you can get it to the appropriate place. I've lived in West Jordan for nearly 14 years now. I'm a home owner, tax payer, lawful citizen. :) I live on the most Eastern side of WJ, near the Sandy border on 90th S (Home Depot neighborhood). As you may know, the 90th South (West) lanes have been under construction for years - and they have finally completed that work. The road crew did an excellent job putting it all back together. I was very pleased to see some major beautification efforts - trees, shrubs, extending all the way up to Redwood Road. Which is lovely & appreciated. 90th South is such a major artery to all of West Jordan, South Jordan, Taylorsville, etc. However, I encourage you to take a little drive and hop on 1-15 Northbound at 10600 S. and then take the West Jordan Exit at 90th South and head West. Once you begin pulling off of that Exit, look around at the sides of the road. You'll start noticing garbage everywhere....that has been collecting for years and years! One of our main West Jordan Exit's looks like a junkyard. This is the Exit that I take often to get to my home. It makes me sad that 90th, a main ENTRYWAY to our city, is the most forgotten area of the city!
I took a recent trip to Arizona, and immediately noticed how clean and well kept their freeway's and particularly their exit areas were. They don't tolerate trash, it would seem and ours is so filthy and unkempt, and seemingly forgotten. I've actually considered taking matters in my own hands a few times, but then thought better of it, thinking that I don't have the safety and protective equipment to clean up that amount of garbage and/or waste that might be there. This would be too big of a job for ONE person, and I'm certain that they'd need a haul away dumpster to even touch the trash that has collected there over time. There are fenced off areas (Northwest on that Exit) with trash that isn't even accessible. It has worked more like a visible garbage can, I suppose. I know there is a homeless camp that wanders all around that area - they're often found under the bridge at 90th asking for help. But I don't believe they're causing this issue entirely. Sure, they're likely adding to it, BUT, this area has been neglected long before we had these visitors. I believe that this Exit has been neglected for years and years (at least in my time in WJ)! I'd really appreciate it if someone would look into putting together a community clean up day or service project focusing on this major issue? But at the same time, I wonder why aren't we keeping this area clear of debris and garbage and encouraging a welcoming and tidy entry into our city? Why doesn't our city seem to have any pride (like Arizona) about how our Freeway Exit is managed and/or cared for? Why isn't cleanliness and appearance a priority? It's the gateway to WJ and to a major Utah Sporting club (REAL SL)? Maybe the city should TEAM up with REAL's leadership to beautify/keep this area tidy??? Wouldn't that collaboration make sense? We need to restore a sense of pride in our community and how we portray ourselves to others and to our WJ guests.
I clean up street garbage on my own street every week. It's disappointing that I have to do this, but I'm willing to do it to keep my street clean and tidy because I want to live in a place that considers this type of upkeep important.
Is there someone on the city council or a volunteer committee that would be willing to bring this up to leadership that could actually do something about this major eye sore? We should be better than this, don't you agree?

A concerned WJ Mom, and constituent.
    Thanks for your time!
