Today, Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, for a few minutes, I picked up plastic shards from the raised island in the photo (after I snapped the photo at 1:14 p.m.) I filled a small bag with shards of plastic and some glass and disposed of it in the dumpster at my building.

Could D.P.W. please sweep up the glass in the photo?

Also please sweep by the curbs of this island.

There are two (2) large appliances by the Metal Items dumpster. I would say that is perhaps not illegal dumping because they brought it to the right place, but the dumpster is almost full. So, they did the safe thing and left it nearby. See additional photo.

Smashed hubcap and a separate piece of metal plus the metal ring that broke off the plastic hubcap (both on the faded yellow line).

I live nearby, so I walked out to take this photo. I noticed that because of the new line striping (to the right), motorists are not avoiding this smashed hubcap but running over it. Nevertheless, I like the new striping because now (at other times) motorists don't try to pass me on the left (when I am in my car, at this spot near my driveway) when they go to make a right turn which I often do (and I would then be in the now non-existent right lane).

Could D.P.W. please remove the two metal items and then sweep up the plastic? This would be much more efficient than me picking up each piece by hand.

I saw this particular spot, "Boston Ave. & High St." on the City of Medford website regarding "adopt-a-site" (https://www.medfordma.org/boards-commissions/keep-medford-beautiful) as an adoptable site.

I do many hours per year of voluntary litter pickup. Perhaps someone could adopt this site? I prefer the way I have been doing it. I do it when I have time and when I think "it needs it." It is very tiring work which I am good at even though I have a disability: it suits me. But I can only do so much.

Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025, from 8:36 a.m. to 2:28 p.m. I picked up Mystic Valley Parkway, (rte. 16) and vicinity near St. Joseph's Church, Medford. I communicated it to D.C.R. I also removed as much trash as I could carry in my two hands from around the Medford Fire Station, etc. as I was walking back to the full trash bag for D.C.R. by rte. 16 and added it to that bag. I was coming back from the Metal Items dumpster where I disposed of the small amount of metal items I had picked up that day.

Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:48 p.m. I picked up in Winchester.

The last time I picked up Grove St. in Medford was Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024. The solar powered speed detection radars have made a positive difference for traffic, but they deter pedestrians, including me. I am doing what I can to avoid electromagnetic radiation.

Yet, there is a person apparently using a cell phone in the photo.

I don't know that it is illegal. The hubcap may have simply popped off. I don't know how the other metal got there.

I did not notice that much trash on the island. But perhaps that is because this site has been adopted? Or it could he under the leaves. Does adopt-a-site expect the person to also rake the leaves?

During my litter pickups, especially this time of year and in the off-season (the winter) I often clear storm drains. Yet I prefer to do it when I can, when I have time, when I think it needs it, during a litter pickup. I cleared several drains in Winchester and a few on Mystic Valley Parkway recently, during the above-mentioned litter pickups.

I don't know if D.P.W. swept up the recent pile of smashed glass, but now there are two, roughly in the same location.

There is also a hot water tank left by the Metal Items dumpster (instead of in the dumpster). See photo. There is also a large kitchen appliance to the right. See additional photo.

There is a 5-gallon plastic bucket by the Metal Items dumpster. See photo. This can be re-used for litter pick up (or myriad other uses), recycled, or thrown away in the trash. (I suppose you're supposed to recycle it.)

Could D.P.W. please sweep up the glass. Also, could D.P.W. pick up and sweep the very many shards of plastic under the Metal Items dumpster the next time "they" empty or haul away this dumpster. i.e. could someone from D.P.W. be there during the, presumably, short window of time that there is no dumpster in the bay to clean up the profuse plastic underneath? That would be the only way it would get done. The plastic must be removed, as an issue of environmental concern. Thank you.
