  • Riverside Ave & Park St Medford, Massachusetts, 02155 - Medford
    This intersection poses an incredible risk to anyone driving on it. If you drive on Park St. towards Riverside Ave. and attempt to make a left, there is about 10 feet of visibility to the left. The lights are set to flashing yellow for Riverside and flashing red for Park. So essentially, you are having people making a left, stop and make the turn when able. That said, everyone blows the speed limit and with 10 feet of visibility, there’s no way to see someone coming. Add to the fact that half of people don’t turn their lights on during dusk (aka commuting hours), this is a great danger to public safety. There is a lot of traffic that goes through park st to turn onto Riverside. I bet there are so many accidents on this road, all because for some reason we added flashing lights as opposed to traditional traffic lights.

    The intersection of Governors Ave and Lawrence Rd has a smart traffic light system. The light on Governors Ave will only turn green if there is a vehicle approaching the intersection.

    However, a bicycle is unable to trigger the signal when on Governors Ave going in either direction. It does not matter how many minutes you wait on a bicycle, without a car coming from behind or another car going the opposite direction, the light never turns green. So when vehicular traffic is light, a bicycle cannot cross the intersection without riding through a red light, which is obviously unsafe.

    This is in contrast to other intersections such as Boston Ave and College Ave where a bicycle can trigger green on Boston Ave.

    Perhaps the inductive loop sensor can be adjusted to better detect a bicycle

    The induction coil that triggers the light for traffic leaving the High School does not detect bikes. That means if you leave the high school on a bike and wish to turn left onto Winthrop St, you can't do it until a car comes up behind you.

    The traffic light at intersection of riverside Ave and rt 28 is too short for the cars travelling on riverside Ave. The crosswalk signal lasts longer than the green light! There are many cars going east on riverside, plus cars are trying to get out of the Stop and Shop parking lot. This is unsustainable. I hope whoever planned this light setting gets stuck there sometime waiting for 4 light cycles to get through it.

    This intersection has too much traffic for much of the day to safely make a left turn from main street onto main/mystic. This results in drivers pushing the boundaries of safety to slip into what small breaks in traffic exist. A normal light cycle during peak traffic times would make this a safer and smoother experience.

    The first traffic light heading south from Commercial St. Malden to Riverside Dr. Medford always actiates the left turn arrow when it changes and no traffic is in that lane request a left turn. That should only activate when a vehicle needs to turn left. Causes longer delays for the trafic in the northbound direction and only adds to drivers frustation and trying to make two lanes of trafiic where it should be one. In addition the time interval is way to long. Please address this ASAP its been like this since roadwork was done several tears ago.

    It appears this location is under local jurisdiction. I do not see that MASS DOT controls traffic lights in this area.
