This home has its sump pump discharge going right onto the sidewalk. Year round there is either wet, slimy water on the sidewalk that is slippery or in the winter it is icy. Can the resident be asked to move the discharge pipe so it is not causing a hazard for residents walking by. Also, the property has a low apple tree that overhangs onto the sidewalk. My husband was scratched on his face walking by the other day. Can the city trim this or is this the responsibility of the homeowner. Thank you!

This is erosion from Norwich Circle, probably from the grass strip on the westbound side of Norwich Circle where it slopes down to Grove Street. There is gully forming where there used to be a grass strip on Norwich Circle.

Sand, native pebbles, and gravel washing down onto Grove Street. Probably OK to leave it. But it might be better to use the natural sediments to re-fill the gully on the grass strip, i.e. sweep them manually and then transport them by wheelbarrow the short distance.

The grass strip between the sidewalk and road is perhaps public property. But perhaps the abutter(s) could be encouraged to maintain it.

Mechanical sweeping has probably missed the sediments on the right side (in the photo). The similar sediments across the street are new.

I believe I recently saw this exact same issue tersely posted earlier on this site but was unable to find it and it was closed to comments. I wanted to add a photo.

  • 20 Sherwood Rd Medford MA 02155, United States - Medford

    Hello,

We bought our house at 20 Sherwood Rd in 2016. Since then, every time there is a very heavy rain storm, we’ve seen a gigantic pond of water form in front of our house. This picture is from this past week when the tropical storm came through. The water got so deep, that it came all the way up our front lawn and was against our house’s foundation. The owner of 16 Sherwood Rd said she has been reporting this issue for years. Can the city look into ways to improve the drainage for this area? It’s extremely concerning to us, and I think the solution needs to go beyond just pumping the sewer drains more often (though that is helpful) If we accidentally leave a car parked in front of our house during a heavy rainstorm, it will likely be severely damaged. When we bought our house, we were not made aware of this issue, and we are not in a designated flood zone, so we feel the City should help us out with this issue.

    Thanks for your support!

The sprinklers create a flooding issue. They are not aimed properly and are overused, creating pools of water on the sidewalk and mud pits in the grass. They are also aimed at the sidewalk and spray pedestrians. I go by regularly at 5:20 AM and this is when they turn on.

Hello, during the heavy rainstorm on Saturday 10/30, the street in front of 16-20 Sherwood Rd flooded The floodwater deposited tons of wet leaves and mud all over the street Is there any way a crew or a street cleaner truck can clean up the street? Even if the neighbors all got together to clean it up, we don't have anywhere to put the debris Thank you!,
