Quad Driver Critical
A quad driver crashed into a tree Monday night and almost lost his life.
The driver, who’s around 20, was passing a car while driving his quad on Russell Street by Clifton in the Heights at around 6:14 p.m., according to Sgt. Anastasio. He smacked into a tree. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where is reported in critical condition.
It is illegal to drive a quad in the streets. Police in neighborhoods like the Heights have had their hands full this summer chasing after dirt bikers and quad drivers.
I bet this is the guy I saw shortly before that pooping wheelies on a white quad, speeding on 1st Avenue. Can the NHPD please take this more seriously in our neighborhood, and can more neighbors call them when they see this? Next time it will be someone else, one of our law-abiding neighbors, that these scofflaws injure, or worse.

White quad hot rodder was racing up and down Front Street also. He almost hit a car head on when he passed a car and the oncoming car was speeding. It was amazing he didn't cause an accident. Was accompanied by a dirt biker. They seem to enjoy hitting the speed humps at high speeds. It's too dangerous for kid to play or ride bikes because of these riders.

Once again, the police are short staffed, no its not a good answer, but be realistic. they get hundreds of calls a day, someone calls because their husband is punching in their face, you call and tell them about the ATV'S. Where do they have to go first, these punks live one block up the street from me. I call everyday, for the last week its been only one or two instead of 25. We need to change the laws, they get caught once the fine has to be higher, the impound fee has to go up. They get caught again, see ya later bike. Do you think the cops aren't @#$%, they come, the bums have scanners. So what do we get helicopters. speeding another problem, everywhere, so what do we do, put a cop on every corner, impossible.There are no easy solutions, changing the laws, is the best they can do. We have major problems in this city, and the biggest one is that old shoe in the Mayors office. cecilia proto

I live close to the beginning of Quinnipiac Ave and all I hear are kids driving recklessly on dirt bikes everyday. Something needs to be done about this!

Barrier repair Archivé

Front And Lombard Streets New Haven, CT 06513, USA

There is a very dangerous situation that needs to be fixed at the intersection of Lombard and Front Streets in Fair Haven just before the Quinnipiac River. In a car accident some months ago the barrier and fence in front of the river at the intersection were damaged; the sign indicating the end of Lombard Street is missing. Someone not familiaar with Front street could easily go into the river.
For safety and aesthetic reasons, the broken rusty fence with unsightly invasive plants and poison ivy along the Quinnipiac River in Dover Beach Park on Front Street also needs to be replaced. It is located between the new fence on the rebuilt seawall and the new fence at the foot of Lombard Street.

The hill school looks abandoned. Are there plans to keep it a school or sell it? It is badly in need of maintenance. Crumbling brownstone wall, actively falling, broken rusty metal handrails, peeling maybe original lead paint, mold, 12" tall grass, broken asphalt and other trip hazards abound.

I would like to know what the timeline is for these repairs. Keeping or selling they must be done for the safety of the neighborhood.

Brand new potholes from roadwork on brand new road Archivé

Is this how all the roads get so damaged here? Brand new road surface has been left torn up after utility, gas or other company that needed to get under the road has finished their work and left the road in a much worse state than when they got there.

Speed bumps would work much better than new potholes on Quinnipiac av.

These people are paid really well, after all they are almost all union workers. Possibly that is the problem, they cant get fired unless they dont show up to work or they kill someone. Maybe the police officers that make 20-30 bucks more an hour than a regular flagger could oversee the work since they are there just standing around with no flags.

The yearly problem is back. The Brush, weeds and small trees seem to be worse then ever. You can not see pulling out of 1st Ave. to Hemingway street. The problem is from the mail box to 24 Hemingway st. to the corner of 1st Av.. A few of the neighbors are interested in helping keeping it down but the city needs to cut it back first.

Grand Ave & Q-Ave Block Watch 9-39 1st Meeting Tuesday August 21st, 6:30pm. Archivé

Please spread the word, meeting site to come shortly. We will be addressing various safety issues, so bring your concerns, and a neighbor, if possible. Block 9-39 will cover the area from the river up the hill to Lexington, south to Oxford and north to Runo Terrace by the school. Others nearby these boundaries are welcome as well.

bad patch work and dip in road Archivé

the road is in desperate need of paving, the section between 22 and 20 eastern st has a bad patch job and pot hole around man hole which causes the already speeding cars on the street to either swerve to avoid it or when they go over it, (especially large trucks) it rattles and creates a un bearable noise that we can't even have our window open in the summer time. This has been like this for at least 8 years. it's been reported several times and nothing has been done.

There are tow large potholes right at the speed bump. Unfortunately they're located located where you either turn toward packed cars or oncoming traffic to avoid them. My wife called over a week ago, but noting done yet.

Will concerns about speeding be addressed? Speeding and dangerous driving in the area, and between the neighborhood and downtown, makes this a very unattractive place to live.

I find it interesting that the issues in Ward 13 cannot be addressed successfully and this meeting includes alderpeople from neighboring wards. Is this going to be the same ol same ol? Lots of talk and no action. If the drug dealers don't fear an arrest, why should the speeders, red light, stop sign runners, or the gangs of kids on dirt bikes worry.....Look around the neightborhood...do you see any improvement on issues that have been discussed and reported for years. It's like; are you not tired of hearing yourself talk and talk about the same ol, same ol?
We shouild expect and receive results for any and all issue and complaints...not excuse after excuse.

I thought for sure she was attending given that she sent out the email, but i can't say i'm 100% sure she'll be there. But I'd be awfully surprised if she wasn't. As for not going because you feel we've been ignored, you can't make progress if we don't convene and have ourselves heard. Philadelphia has the same dirt bike problem we do. So Quinnipiac Ave detour traffic has really increased on Lexington Ave and the speedbumps are not doing their job at all. We need increased police presence on this 25 mph street PLEASE!

Have you submitted a "complete streets" request? http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/Engineering/completestreets.asp Many other neighborhoods/Aldermen have submitted these since the bill was adopted recently.

With all due respect, police enforcement is not a good long-term solution to fixing this problem. I have looked at the police enforcement statistics for a number of streets around the city. The police might show up once or twice, and give out 20 tickets, but then the problem comes right back.

I agree that the speed limit should be strictly enforced but it has to be done systematically according to a plan, not just whenever the department feels like addressing it.

Obviously, the design of the road itself is completely inadequate for the needs of this neighborhood. Neighbors should get together and turn it back into a street that serves the needs of the people who live there. Speed humps may have been a first step but there are dozens of other very low cost ways to reduce the travel speeds here.

I agree w/ original poster. Speeding is a HUGE problem in the Heights. wasn't a child on a bike hit on this very street 2 years ago? I have almost been hit many times, on foot or in my car. It's like the Wild West. There is no accountability. I'd love some more NHPD traffic enforcement out here. It sends a message.

I dont think the cops care anymore. I see a cop hanging out in the parking lot of Benjamin Jepson school doing nothing once or twice a week, why doesnt he come up the hill and hang out on any corner on Lexington Ave and take radar??? I've seen these speeders passing school buses in the mornings!

So yet another car on Lexington plowed into by an idiot in a white Cadillac. The driver of the cadillac ran of course(3rd hit and run in 2 months). Now that Lexington Ave is a detour for Quinnipiac all I can do is quietly hope/beg/pray that the men running this city step up and help us out.
