Requests: road safety
45 Magnolia Ave Gloucester, Massachusetts
The speeding on Magnolia Ave between 127 and the variety store is consistently excessive. No curb, blind knolls, and blind roads/driveways make it a real concern.
My wife Sarah Campbell and I have a 6 year old and 12 year old. Our friends on Butler, Rob and Liz Moran (three children) and Cy Bent (two children) are worried as well.
The two main reasons are not enough signs/conflicting signs and the straightaways themselves.
There is no sign entering from 127, which is 35 through the intersection. There is a 30 mph sign near the store, but it is hidden by branches. Other signs on the road are 25 mph. In fact, a GPD officer said the other day that speeding on Magnolia Ave is an issue, the speed limit is 25, and to file a report for more signs and radar signs.
25 seems like the most appropriate speed to post. People may go 30+ but not 35-40+ (which is what most people seem to be driving). If you agree, 20, like in Manchester, is ridiculous.
Radar signs in both directions before the corner near the soccer field and in the straightaways between the corner and knoll at 43 Magnolia Ave and between 43 and Englewood may be helpful. That is where people really pick up speed.
Speed humps would help. They are 24″ long x 12 ft wide x 6 inches high and reduce speeds to 10 – 15 mph. Radar sign vendors claim they damage cars. However, the damage is from driving to fast, which seems like a way to penalize non-compliant drivers without ongoing civic resources being expended (ie police officer speed details and courts administering fines and appeals). I have seen this in different parts of the state and they work well.
Increased, police speed details in the evenings would also be welcomed.
Any help you can provide will be appreciated.
45 Magnolia Ave
Emerson Avenue Gloucester, Massachusettssidewalk is completely unusable. Big safety hazard as this is a busy residential neighborhood with some .businesses There are often huge construction trucks as well as school buses sharing this narrow road with regular vehicle traffic
there is also a very popular neighborhood playground which has become extremely popular with mothers of young children with carriages and numerous dog walkers.
!1. Lincoln park elderly housing.
2. Pathways childcare etc.
We should be able to walk the neighborhood safely!!!!!!

34 Shore Road Gloucester, MassachusettsI know that this has been an issue for a LONG time, and that there are sensitivities because the road is (I think) actually maintained by the abuttors - BUT - the situation on Shore Road has just gotten crazy, with potholes that seek to do substantial damage with every passing car. I understand that the neighbors don't want people speeding along Shore Road, but it is a public way, and its current condition is extreme, and in need of immediate repair. I didn't think that anything could be done before spring, but then I saw that Waterside Lane at Freshwater Cove was just recently repaved, so I again have hope that something can be done before spring Thanks very much.
7 Sayward Street Gloucester, MassachusettsI know that there is already a post about this up, but the amount of cars that treat this street like a racetrack is insane. I can't tell you the number of cars that drive by at any hour of the day easily double the speed limit of 25. One of these days if the city doesn't do anything there is gonna be a accident like there has been in the past, it's to the point where I wake up to the cars stomping on the gas coming down the street at night because they are going so fast.
29 Cleveland Street Gloucester, Massachusetts
Cleveland Street needs some speed bumps... all the neighbors on the street complain that cars will drive up to 45 mph on the street which is dangerous for children and pedestrians.
This summer one such driver crashed into a parked car because he was speeding on cleveland. Speed bumps would reduce unsafe conditions and noise pollution.
82 Rocky Neck Ave Gloucester, MassachusettsA new home was built this past summer across from the Studio Restaurant. They did something that damaged the water drainage, ? underground water. There is always water in the street in front of there home, sometimes a mini flood. It never is dry. Now there is about 20 feet of ice in front of the house in the street which stretches across the entire street. Whatever they did needs to be fixed by the property owner. It is a permanent hazard which is even worse now that it is frozen. When it snows you won't be able to tell where the ice is. It is a safety issue. Thanks for you assistance.
71 Pleasant St Gloucester 01930, United StatesHole under swing. my son’s foot got hurt in the hole while swinging. This is a safety issue for kids now that it is getting warmer.
97 Western Ave Gloucester 01930, United StatesSome deteriorated handrails on Boulevard between Fishermans Statue and bridge. Concerned about public safety not total replacement which I know is not in the cards. Some quality black tape may work short term as has been done before. Lots of chatter on this on Facebook.
3 Salt Marsh Lane Gloucester, Massachusetts
Yellow center line needs to be painted so it is seen better at night and when it rains.
The safety barrier on the side of Atlantic Street is rusted and damaged and needs to be replaced. Will it be replaced?
