Our old recycling bin, which we wanted to keep, was taken today. We put broken down boxes into it and put it on the curb to keep them together during the storm last night, we did not expect them to take the bin with the boxes. Please return.

The collection of these bins was not supposed to go into this week so we thought we would be able to put it out there safely in order to keep our cardboard from being blown away in the storm last night. We would not have put it out had it not seemed to be clear that they would not be picked up after the 21st.

Sorry any open faced recycling bins put out to the curb were to be picked up by the hauler.
Thanks

That's not what we were told though. All of the instructions were explicit in saying that any bins or garbage cans you wanted taken away needed to be upside down and have that "take away" sticker. Ours did not and was in fact full of overflow cardboard that wouldn't fit in our new bin. Biking to work today I saw dozens of people who did the same, most thinking as I did that it wouldn't be taken away unless those instructions were followed and only during the weeks specified.
Again, please bring back our bin or tell us where we can go to get it back; it was clearly not meant to be taken and if you gave those instructions to the hauler that was a pretty poor decision.

Please note that the 18-gallon recycling bins may be reused in other ways such as storage so we encourage residents to hang on to them if they have a re-use for them but please do not continue to place them at the curb or they will be taken away and disposed of.

I don't understand why you are making impossible one of the most logical uses of these bins, overflow from the recycling bins which are simply too small for most cardboard boxes. Why is it so difficult to instruct the hauler to only take them if the instructions were followed to put them upside down with a take label?
You still have not told me how we can get back our bin that was taken in this manner, we did pay deposits on these bins so just taking them when it was clear we did not want them taken is not ok. This issue is not closed until this is addressed.

do I now need to be worried that they would take this too if I used it for overflow? I honestly do not understand the thinking here.

There's no need to be belligerent about this. If these 18 gallon bins have been disposed of and the city has no more, than just confirm that instead of dodging the question.
And what you are saying is happening is not spelled out on the main page that people will look at:
https://www.cityofmalden.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=341
"Residents may place these at the curb on their trash day the week of May 17-21, 2021 and JRM will dispose of them.
Resident are asked to turn them upside-down and attach a label that can be printed and affixed to the old cart(s)."
No where on this page does this say you are going to take them after this date and if they are not marked and upside. Make it clear there or I will continue to open this issue until that is done.
