Description
This dangerous intersection has been reported here at least twice in the past. Now major construction has begun on a piece of land that adjoins the intersection. Trucks are parked on the street, reducing visibility even further.
But more importantly: When the condo construction is completed, will the driveway for the new residences empty onto Ashland Street in the exact location where we already have the serious issues with visibility, driver speed, etc. that have previously been discussed here? If so, and no new signs, flashing lights etc. are added, the intersection will become even more dangerous.
Can someone in the appropriate city department please check the construction plan (and more specifically the entrance/exit/parking plan) for the new residences, and see if we are indeed going to be dumping more traffic onto this already-hazardous section of road? And if so, can someone please develop a plan to help reduce the likelihood of an accident? Thanks in advance for checking into this.

We have a REAL Hazard at this intersection with 7 different streets feeding into this one intersection.
-traffic coming from both ways on Ashland (0 visibility to Peachtree st)
-traffic from Peachtree (including cut through traffic from Daniels middle school) with NO visibility to Ashland
-traffic from Gordon Sreet
-traffic feeding from the current condominium comples into the middle of that same hazerdous intersection,
-and traffic from the back street that is 100% used for the Oberlin condos and homes, it feeds into Ashland (20 feet from the same intersection) as well.
-Now more construction of condominiums and added traffic feeding into the middle of that same hazardous intersection.
Add to it that
-all of the Stop signs are hidden and/or back too far from the intersections
-overgrown trees blocking visibility and stop signs.
-And morning and afternoon traffic from people cutting through trying to dodge the traffic at Daniels middle school
-no sidewalks so we are all walking our children and pets on the street
-children walking to/from Daniels middle school on the street
We have a serious problem, and we need this addressed by the city!

This Ashland/Gordon/Peachtree intersection does have significant complications...even if it were only a T-intersection. The turning-angles add to its lack of safety. School buses, parents' parking, students walking home or to parent's car---heightens every problems. Major construction puts it now in dangerous category!
As a Wayland Heights resident who uses this intersection regularly....I ask, 'How quickly can this intersection be improved--and made VERY safe?' Yes....soon!!

Suggestion: Place "No Parking Any Time" signs on the south side of Ashland Street, from the Ashland/Peachtree/Gordon intersection to Oberlin Road.
The residents who live in homes at (1) the corner of Ashland and Oberlin and (2) at the corner of Ashland and Peachtree often park their vehicles on the north side of Ashland, between Oberlin Rd. and Peachtree, next to their homes.
So if vehicles are also parked on the south side of Ashland, there's effectively just one lane open for the cars that are turning off of Oberlin onto Ashland, and the cars on Ashland what are approaching Oberlin Road.
Now add to the mix the fact that (1) this is area is a blind hill, and (2) vehicles exiting Oberlin are often doing so at a high rate of speed, and you've got a recipe for disaster.
Prohibiting parking on the south side of Ashland would not negatively impact residents of the condos and apartments on that side of the street, because they all have ample parking in the parking lots and garages associated with their buildings.
No one "needs" to park on the south side of Ashland.
If you want to see what I'm talking about, go take a look. Because currently. construction trucks (from the condo construction) are parking on both sides of Ashland. And it makes this already dangerous area even more dangerous.

All above is accurate and more than accurate. Our neighborhood children will be visiting each other as soon as school is out. Year-round school buses will continue to use these streets regularly.
To repeat my earlier question: 'How quickly can this intersection be improved--and made VERY safe?' We need it soon.

A number of See Click Fix issues have been lost in the system and are just now being recovered. Our apologies for the long time it took for us to respond to this post!
After looking into this further, we have found that the development will not have permanent access onto Ashland Street upon completion.
The access they have on Ashland now is specifically for construction and will be closed off with curb and gutter prior to CO (see attached subdivision plan). With relation to the construction traffic issue, we have directed the inspector for the area to keep close eye on project to ensure that no major problems are caused. Being that it is construction there will be some inconvenience caused, but the good thing is the project seems to be moving along rather well and hopefully this traffic on Ashland will not be a long term thing; we do not have a definitive time frame for completion so the inspector will stay vigilant for the duration. Addition of the painted lines has been helpful to guide us better as neighbors.

Unless I’m completely mistaken, they are building garages under the homes, that would mean they have no choice but to feed into Ashland? There is nowhere else for them to go. So even if they feed into the condo complex already build next to them (which also feeds smack in the middle of a dangerous intersection), the traffic and danger level is increased to an already dangerous intersection.
No signs point out either condo entrance (at the top or bottom of Ashland’s hill in question) and one is in the middle of a 4 direction intersection.
I appreciate your time and attention to this continuing issue.
