This property (tax map number 156B-N-006) was foreclosed on at the end of June 2009 by the City/County after Janet Thomas owed taxes from 2005-2008. It takes 4 years for a back-tax property to be foreclosed on by the City and County. Many of the complaints on this type of abandoned property are typically like this one and people do not understand that if an owner does not take care of the property, the only method we have is to cite them or clean it up and put a lien on the house (Neighborhood Services court). This property will be offered in the County/City back-tax sale occurring in late February 2010. I will ask our mower to cut the grass, but that is all that can be done at this time.
So, the city/county owns this property? I hope the taxpayers are prepared to pay reparations for whomever is injured at this site. Additionally, I would think this building is a health hazard. I will testify in court regarding my requests to have this property made safe if I am ever asked to do so. This building caught fire over a year ago and five trucks responded. I wonder what the cost was to put out the fire?
