CITY OF ANSO.NIA
MAILBOX POLICY
The location of any mailbox within the City right-of-way automatically makes it vulnerable to the high impact loads from snow and ice cascading off the plows of the City's snow removal equipment. While mailboxes provide an opportunity for individual expression, their primary purpose is to provide a reliable receptacle for mail throughout the year. Structural strength and the durability to withstand the rigors of New England weather should be the primary consideration when selecting.and installing a mailbox.
Residents and taxpayers are reminded of the importance of proper placement and a nchoring of mailboxes and support posts to prevent damage from snow removal op rations. The City requests that everyone complies with the following guidelines.
1. PlACEMIENT - Place a roadside mailbox where a carrier can safely reach without leaving the vehicle (illustration below):
2. POST - 4" X 4" wooden post or a 2" diameter standard steel or aluminum pipe. ,Post can be buried up to 24" deep. DO NOT place concrete in post hole. Post must be able to break away if struck by a vehicle.
3. DO NOT USE:
A. heavy metal pipes
B. concrete posts
C. any item filled with concrete
(i.e. milk cans, cinder blocks, trash cans, etc.)
REM EM BER - Casted snow that strikes and knocks over a mailbox or post does not qualify for replacement. A public works vehicle or plow must strike the mailbox and show visible signs of damage.
A designated representative of the public works department is authorized to use reasonable discretion in resolving disputes regarding mailbox replacement.

If you reside on a state highway (Route #115, #243, #334, #727 or #853), and you sustain damage to your mailbox, please contact the Connecticut D. 0. T. Beacon Falls Maintenance Facility at (203) 881-0529.
Good grief, can we please stop officials in Ansonia from responding to most posts with "Please contact your Alderman.." or "Please contact the Mayor's office". It's 2014 people. Post the response here or post it on the city's web site and supply a link directing people to the answer. Residents shouldn't have to spend their time calling Aldermen and City Hall when answers can be provided much more quickly and efficiently online!
Amen Denise, I also welcome the City of Ansonia to 2014! Enough already of "calling your alderman" and "writing city hall". There is enough wasted time. Post everything online, respond to comments and complaints in the same, manner TAKE ACTION, let residents know what you've done and move on.
