This is an easy fix. Its called a full time Code Enforcement Officer.

Our current mayor refuses to allow the hiring of such a position that would eliminate all of the blight in the city.

Good question! These people are generating income from auto repair that they're not paying taxes on, avoiding auto taxes, registry fees, breaking the cities law etc etc but hey let the residents be in charge of reporting these issues even though there's a satellite police station up the street.

22 I believe. All you have to do is drive down the street and you can tell which house. Unregistered car parked on street for 3 days now.

Flat bed there again, attached plates to another car parked in street that does not run, did burnouts in street & parked their multiple cars in other driveways blocking them in for 10 minutes. Who do we have to contact to get these nuisances of neighbors to stop?!

@ Chicmama Just give up & don't waste your time. Maybe they're repairing the police cars. The city doesn't care about that street. That's why it's the only one in that area that parking on both sides of the street is allowed .

They kept the kids awake when they were in school revving their exhaust and fixing cars. Probably responsible for catalytic converters being stolen in the area. Honda’s are all they fix.

Owner was contacted and reinspection is scheduled for the 20th.

You should be thankful you have a ward councilor that actual engages with constituents and goes to bat for them.

As far as I'm concerned My ward councilor is what I'd call "no show job" as are many wards.

A notice has gone out to the owner regarding the vehicles. The reinspection date is July 20th.

You’re welcome!! :) It may look like nothing is happening and I understand your frustration but our health director and I communicate regularly. You will not be forgotten. Because we feel like a small city it’s easy to forget we are quite large. They are very busy working hard for everyone. As your councilor it’s my job to make sure you are not forgotten, and you are not. Now if we had a Code Enforcement Officer we’d get more done faster. Our health director (Lisa) shouldn’t be out doing inspections but she does because she cares.
I ask one favor. When you see the illegal action happing please call the PD at that moment with as much detail as possible. They may not be able to respond right away and I know that’s frustrating to everyone but the documentation helps. Once a month if not more I meet with one of the 4-12 supervisors and I see for myself how busy they are. He personally follows up on my concerns for the ward. Thanks.

Thank you so much for all you do! We definitely need a Code Enforcement Officer! As far as calling the Police….these are not nice people to deal with. They think they own the street & make it impossible for tenants to have any parking on purpose. It’s awful in the winter when people with kids have to walk a block away in the snow because these people took up all the parking. They have a plate they switch around or take off one of their front plates on cars they do have registered & attach them to cars they park on the street. There are currently 2 cars on the street now with attached plates. Again thank you!

police came last night while the “repair shop” was in the middle of repairing a car on the street with attached plates. Seemed like they were old friends laughing and joking and they did nothing. What an embarrassment for Chicopee

I saw it all on my security cameras. The police were laughing with them & were yelling at the gentleman that must’ve called or voiced his complaints. If they ran the plate maybe something would’ve been done. It was disgusting to watch. I definitely don’t feel safe with them as our officers.

Perhaps someone should contact the news outlets about these residents and report these officers.

Very disappointing to hear. I will check the call log and follow up with the 4-12 supervisor. Due to schedules it won’t be until next week but I will text him sooner. It is illegal to work on your car in the street. I know because I wrote the ordinance. If the video could be emailed to me that would be great. I have had encounters on the street dealing with issues with two of the district officers and found them very receptive. Not sure if these officers were different ones.

I believe you were emailed multiple videos and pictures as well as one with their underage son with autism driving the vehicles as well. Apparently the officer didn’t want to see pictures or videos. I’m sure I could get the video from a neighbor with home security cameras with the officers interaction and audio with the repair shop if need be. I was told by a neighbor it was Officer Austin.

They’ve been loudly fixing 2 cars since 5pm with all they’re equipment dragged out. Cops drove by and ignored it. Can’t call them like suggested because we’ll be the bad ones. This is ridiculous.
