Description

The morning gridlock around the Pentagon parking lot, especially on the South side from I-95 continues to be extremely difficult and dangerous. Pentagon police continue to wave traffic through from two other directions and hold up traffic from the HOV and regular lanes coming into South Parking indefinitely. The entire parking lot is extremely poorly designed where pedestrian traffic and vehicular traffic impeed or cross over one another greater than 50 times. This parking lot needs new solutions, a new design and traffic cops who can understand the traffic situation from all directions. Vehicular and pedestrian traffic must be separated so that there is a clear path to the entrance rather than having to cross heavy traffic countless times. As a suggestion they could look at several successful models at Airports where vehicular traffic never really needs to stop and there is little interruption between the pedestrian and vehicular traffic patterns.
