Description
The Westwind subdivision is planning on closing its south gate 24/7. The gate is located at the intersection of Ridgemoor Dr N and Wellington Drive. We are concerned that motorists without a valid gate code may block access to subsequent motorists and cause vehicles to temporarily obstruct the path of oncoming northbound traffic on Ridgemoor Dr N. Due to a curve in Ridgemoor Dr. N, motorists on that thoroughfare have no visibility to the intersection mentioned above, or to any cars stopped near it.
We have heard of a side impact and rollover accident at this location some years ago.
We request that Pinellas County consider adding blind drive signage south of the intersection.

You will need to contact Pinellas County Building and Development Review Services at https://www.pinellascounty.org/forms/site-plan-preapp.htm to schedule an appointment to review this proposed gate closure.
They will have to determine if the gates were permitted as part of the site plan, or permitted at all, if they meet current codes and what impact this proposed gate closure will have on emergency response access as well as possible back ups into Ridgemoor Dr N.
I'll assign this SCF to BDRS for any additional input...

Incidentally, the gate has been in existence unchanged since the early 1990s. Picture attached, with credit to Google Streetview. The only proposed change is to keep it closed in the daylight hours (it has always been closed at night).
The gate is similar to many other gates in the Ridgemoor Area, many of which are closed 24/7.
What I don't know if a risk traffic safety assessment on all such gates was not done during construction 30 years ago, or if safety standards have changed since then.
