This request is the subject of an ongoing discussion between city officials, area residents, and the MBTA. Will seek an update from the involved parties and report back.
Residents in favor of creating access to the Quincy Adams T Station from Independence Avenue presented a petition to Mayor Koch for his review.
This request has surfaced from time to time since the opening of the station. In researching the matter concerns related to traffic impacts on Independence Avenue stemming from drop-off and pickup as well as people taking the T parking for extended periods on the surrounding residential streets have prevented the use of this access point in the past.
The Mayor and city officials are reviewing these concerns to determine the viability of opening this gate without negatively impacting the neighborhood. The Ward Councillor is also reviewing the matter and may have different concerns and/or recommendations based on the input he receives.
A community meeting will be held before any decision is made.
Seems like every time this is brought up to the city, the standard line is that they will work with the MBTA and do a study? This is not the only station in Quincy. People get dropped off on the Newport Ave. side of Wollaston and Quincy Center every day. People also park on the surrounding streets to save a few dollars, taking the risk of being ticketed. What makes this location any different?
