I understand your frustration and it's apparent that you dont have much else to do besides take pictures and rant about this topic but i can assure you as a business owner who is trying to renovate a few of these buildings right now it doesnt happen overnight and it isnt cheap. If you would like to drop off a large suitcase full of cash to help speed up the process that would be great. Otherwise notice that strides are being made and show some support.

Offers were made to help.

Nails and a few buckets of paint cost little.

Personal labor is free and the owners are able bodied.

Regardless of the interior or usability, it would take little to make the outside look better.

These two buildings have been in decline for years and years and years.

They has been zero progress with the two story portion of the hardware store.

There has been zero progress with the historic old drug store building.

There are rumors the owners are in danger of losing them, I hope not, but something needs to be done to save these buildings. No one wants to see them collapse before our eyes.

I would love to see progress and the saving of these historic buildings.

I think a world of people would be delighted to help with donations of time and material.

They do not seem to be interested. It's sad. It makes no sense.

No one understands why because it surely is not just the money because, again, a little paint, some nails and a few boards and some personal labor could make a world of difference.

"J"...there re some pretty renovations...Madison Station Antiques for sure, Noble Passages is another. I recommend you visit Main Street. Other pretty photos include the Gazebo and Roundhouse in the Village Green between Main Street and the railroad tracks. And then there are the pretty antebellum homes along Front St and Church St.

We lived in Madison city limits for 13 years and I agree those buildings look terrible and have been in decline for well over 20 years. Even after we moved out of Madison we still ate at Bandito Burrito until it closed so I have seen the condition many times. A group I'm aware of has done that, spoken with past and current council members, one member of that group, I hear, reported a violation of electricity left on there 24/7 (a bulb on end of an extension cord strung around room on lower level of the 2 story hardware store); a violation of electricity on in the upper story of the old drug store and someone living there illegally; the falling down balcony, and so on. The city did act on the two violations but otherwise maintains it is a 'safe building' as it is. Someone even said it is the city's intent to allow it to deteriorate to the point they can condemn the building(s) and tear them down. I do hope that is not the case. Regardless, the city chooses to look the other way. It has no explanation.

A drive by this week on Main Street revealed the historic old hardware store has deteriorated more. The glass is all broken out of the upper windows along the side adjacent to the railroad tracks. Thankfully the trolls seem to have been contained.

Sadly the old hardware store, drug store and adjacent storefront that has long been said it will be repaired and renovated as a 'cigar bar' are all still in terribly sad shape.

So the issues of these decaying and untended buildings on the historic Main Street of Madison absolutely remains open after I first posted about them 1,500 days ago.

This issue will stay open on this site as long as the sad demise continues. And it does seem with the city doing nothing about it, nor the 'Historic Commission' that is supposed to protect the historic value of the district, perhaps the owners and the city leaders are together deciding that if the buildings decay enough there will be consensus to destroy them one day. I truly hope that does not happen.

I think that most in Madison want these three stores to be rehabilitated and utilized to more vitalize the downtown Madison area at best. At a minimum residents want the window boards replaced with glass, the rotten boards replaced and painted and the facades made to look normal rather than a derelict ghetto building so that they will not deter from the other rehabbed buildings that have operating businesses in them.

Let us hope that something will happen to save them and happen sooner rather than later.

Why not group together, ask the owner to donate the use of the building? Then ask the school system to use the building for the STEM classes of the local schools to build an indoor greenhouse to start up aquaponic veggies to serve the school and the community. That sounds like a good idea. In the meantime students and volunteers can clean up the inside and outside and everybody wins. Surely there are grant writers, people with some money to donate to help this cause along...

@Lifelong Madison Native Is the user "SeeClickFix Customer Support (RK)" the one you're referring to, or is the troll somebody else? If Customer Support is a troll, then the "fox is in the henhouse" so to speak, as they're an admin.

No S/C/F Customer Service is NOT a troll and they have finally and ultimately been helpful in removing and banning the trolls. For that I am very thankful. There were many trolls. Some posts may have been deleted by Customer Service.
