This isn't a city issue--it's a trash-hauler issue. (Or a landlord issue).

Hi - If we provide the name of the trash hauler, can someone with city official status call the company and remind them of the ordinance?

The police (non-emergency number!) can be called for violations of city ordinances, but you might start with a discussion with the hauler as well as the landlord/building owner who has hired them to service their dumpsters. The city noise ordinances can be accessed here: http://ecode360.com/12360650. As you can see, the basis of the ordinances is noise level, not particular activity. I believe the police have decibel meters, but you could certainly use one yourself to confirm the issue for your discussion with the hauler.

Your difficulty will be in section 204-5, where among other exemptions is noted:

"The operation of refuse collection machinery and equipment, provided that such machinery and equipment is in compliance with all laws and regulations applicable thereto."

Craig - thanks for the information, the noise is quite loud - much louder than emergency vehicles, people fighting, and traffic - all things that occur fairly regularly around here (we are right near Garcia Brogans and the Transitional Living Shelter).

I will look at the dumpster and see if I can ascertain the companies name. Our building is quite large and the dumpster near our unit is not associated with our building, therefore our property manager is not able to assist. I have heard from several people that live in our building, that this is been an ongoing issue with the refuse company and they have received past citations.
