Every day we have cars and motorcycles going about 50 miles an hour up Clinton Ave., a residential street with many children, pets, and elderly residents. Prime time to catch these offenders would be 5-8 p.m.

I strongly support the need to calm traffic, and strictly enforce the existing regulations in this area.
I hear that citizens in the Clinton Avenue Area will be completing "Complete Streets Request Forms" to advocate for improvements that can permanently solve this issue.
In the meantime, though, given that the process to implement "complete streets" seems to take years, I hope that the city will consider temporary installations such as bollards, cones and temporary curb extensions.
There has been a large amount of construction throughout Downtown New Haven over the past year which uses temporary installations, some of which have been highly effective at not just improving the safety of the worksites, but also in reducing traffic speeds and improving pedestrian crossing quality.

Mark, you really seem to be pushing for people to complete this request form and that is a good thing I guess though it sounds a bit like another hoop to jump through just to get a friggin cop to show up once in a while and give out a few speeding tickets.
Does completing the form get cops to show up and do their job? So, we fixed Front st and guess what? the next major street over is full of speeders now...

Re J:
I could have written your letter. Your frustration is obvious. I live on Dover St and it is used primarily as a pass-through between Clinton and Ferry and vice-versa. The amount of traffic is far greater than those just living on Dover. Fine, it's not against the law to use a street. However I would have to say the average speed is WELL ABOVE what's posted and probably averages 40-40mph. Each day there are many people with nothing better to do (I guess) than do laps around the neighbvorhood (I know because sometimes I have nothing better to do than watch!) and part of this is I think is racetrack circuit seems to be driving crazy fast on Dover. Many I'm sure are exceeding 60-70 mph!! I've complained to the police - it seems natural they would hide behind a fence on the street and try to verify what I'm saying. It is a truly dangerous situation many times. Alderman Rodriguez used to get involved in this issue, however I think it is on the back-burner. If NHPD reads this I am requesting again this speeding problem be looked into on Dover St as well. I would like to see speed bumps placed in the street at regular intervals.

I live just on the other side of Grand, and I call the non-emergency police number EVERY time I see motorcycles speeding around. (The number is 203-946-6316.) If they get enough calls, they will send someone out to drive around, and they might set a couple of their cycle officers out to catch speeders, too.
Note that the police have said before that those groups of motorcycles that travel around speeding are sometimes armed, so DON't yell at them or try to stop them yourself!
