Description
Last night I was almost hit by a motorist while riding my bike down the pine street bike lane. I had flashing lights on, the car drove into the bike lane to get around another car turning left. I was right on the right side of the car when this happened and hit the curb. Perhaps you should look at adding removable barriers like what is on the side of swift street in South Burlington, there are metal poles spaced out to prevent cars from driving into the bike lane. I just wanted to bring this suggestion as it seems like pine street is busy for bikes and the extra precautions would help keep everyone safer.

Vermont has 5 months at least of freezing weather where a bike lane is useless. They= bike lanes and paths in this city are being used by motorized bikes and mopeds, unicycles with engines on them, skate boards and anything anyone wants to except a car/truck or REAL motorcycles ( who would be fined heavily).. the entire city is a mess.

I'm very sorry to hear about the near-miss you experienced on Pine Street and thank you for writing to offer some suggestions. This section of Pine Street has improvements planned with the Champlain Parkway. There is not enough width in the current configuration to install the bollards you suggested, and our options for interim improvements before Parkway construction are very limited. For an updated schedule on the Champlain Parkway or to review those plans, please visit www.champlainparkway.com.
The Department of Public Works has resolved this request. Thanks for helping to keep Burlington a great place to live and work.
