  Thank you for your input. The Traffic & Parking Department met this week with Councilor Morsillo to discuss the needs of the Broad Street neighborhood. We will be kicking off a neighborhood meeting to discuss the future of Broad Street with the Traffic & Parking Commission early 2022. Please be on the lookout for this meeting if you are interested in participating. We are also engaging with a transportation consultant to help with this effort.

  The Traffic & Parking Commission will be discussing the existing conditions on Broad Street this Wednesday 5/25 at 6pm via Zoom. Unlike the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Projects with temporary devices, this is a longer term infrastructure project. We hope to have residents in attendance to give input on what they would like to see on Broad Street and discuss potential interim measures. This information will guide the transportation consultants into the next phase where they will design alternatives for the cross-section of Broad Street.   The City of Salem Traffic & Parking Department has worked with a consultant to develop an interim roadway striping plan in an effort to reduce lane widths, reduce vehicle speeds, and enhance pedestrian visibility to drivers. This plan will be presented at the next Traffic & Parking Commission on Wednesday, February 8th at 6:30pm. The meeting will be held virtually, and the agenda (which also contains the Zoom meeting link) will be posted on the City’s website at https://www.salemma.gov/node/97483/agenda/2023. Please note that a longer-term vision for Broad Street will continue to be developed as this would require much more consideration for existing drainage structures, existing trees, lighting, pedestrian ramp and sidewalk construction, as well as potential bicycle accommodations, etc. This striping plan would serve as an interim measure while this long-term effort progresses.
