The last plan I saw for Neider Park was turning it into a forever wild zone "Nature Walk Park" with "Wild Flowers" and Rock Seating" this was about three years ago. How can you close this issue when the work hasn't been done yet?

I closed the issue because I thought I answered the questions but now I realize that I did not address the "forever wild" comment. I have been involved with the parks in the City for over 23 years and I have never seen the plan that you reference. I'm not saying it doesn't exist. I'm just saying that as the head of that department for those years, we (the department) never had any plans to do what you speak of. The park master plan project that we are currently undertaking will address these such issues and I urge you to contact either or Recreation Department or the Office of Neighborhood Initiatives with your thoughts and concerns to help us better evaluate the wants and needs of our citizens.

I have lived in this neighborhood for more than 20 years and Neider Park has always been about the same as it is now. It's pretty obvious that other city
parks, with the possible exception of John Street, get much more attention than
Neider Park. The drainage has always been a problem. The ground stays so wet the grass can't be cut and the fields can get knee high and unusable. I submitted a complaint on See Click Fix about a year ago and a city official closed it saying park repairs would be addressed in some sort of capital project plan.
But my kids are 11 and 14. They want to use the park now, while they're still
kids. Brook Street has beautiful tennis courts. Gulvin Park has a great basketball
court and softball field. Ridgewood Park has a great basketball court. John
Street's basketball court is in good shape. What does Neider have? a cracked
bumpy basketball court, uncut fields, an overgrown ball field and vandalized
playground equipment. We have waited two decades for our street to be rebuilt
while virtually every other area of the city has gotten new pavement, curbing and
sidewalks. I'd say our neighborhood is due for some attention and city tax
dollars.Please fix the drainage, cut the grass, rebuild the basketball court and ball
field, and repair the damaged playground equipment. The horrible condition of
Neider Park is a turnoff to young families, the exact people we want to attract to
the city and the neighborhood.

John Street's park may have a "nice" basketball court, but it is trashed daily. Also, The John Street park no longer has swings, and the slides are slowly being destroyed by the little punks. Something needs to be done about upkeep of this park as well!

John St park no longer has swings because of some unreasonable cry baby which requested the swings come down.His house backs up to where the swings where. Makes no sense to me! You live in a house that is backed up to the park. I would think whoever he spoke to about these swings would of told him what do you expect. Not bow to his request and swings come down. There is a few punks and some good kids to. Maybe the kids are trashing the park to rebel for the swings coming down. I live on John St and live across the street from this guy. He's been a pain since I moved in 8 yrs ago. I finally told him to quit knocking on my door and if he has something to say see me when I'm outside. He had the nerve to knock on my door and tell me my daughter could not park legally in front of my home.

I may attempt to see what I can do about getting them swings back for them kids. He's got a junk car that would wake the dead!!! This is because his approach is junk to in his driveway and rips his exhaust off. He will wake you up when he pulls in and out of his driveway from the car smashing against the sidewalk. This guy better worry about his own personal huge problems. Not crying about whats going on around him. If he don't correct these problems soon, I'm calling the PD about his loud exhaust and go to the city and cry about his junk approach. This guy is a nuisance and a cry baby!! What a combination.

Agreed that all the city parks should be maintained. Can the city do more? Probably. I do know that some of the neighborhood associations have taken the time, with the help of volunteers to clean up and improve several of the parks. Mark Perry maybe you can reach out to the GNRC and those specific neighbors to see if they would be willing to help more. Anyone living in those neighborhoods do the same.

Not saying the City can't do more, But I'm sure the rain has affected their performance. If they could do more this would depend on supervision, The knowledge of the help and the equipment there provided with.

The City DPW and GNRC are working to do everything they can in the parks. Currently, the weather is taking it's toll on our maintenance efforts. Please be assured that once things dry up a little, we will be back on top of it. As far as Nieder Park goes, we continue to work on a drainage plan to correct the problem there. This becomes a budget issue and hopefully will be addressed during the 2016 budget process which is starting now. As far as the swings go at Richards Park, they were not removed because of one cry baby. There have been many complaints about people loitering in that park and the swings were an area where this occurred the most. I decided to remove those swings to try and give the neighbors some relief. Currently, several departments within the city are working together with several people in the area to try to improve this park and try to eliminate some of the issues that led to the removal of the swings. When we feel the time is right to put the swings back, we will.

I'm sure my neighbor and I heard him correctly ( I made the city take the swings down) I just seen my neighbor, He agreed. The swings back up to two homes and one is is vacant and in foreclosure. As far as as the other two homes the guy is a CO and works nights and a quite fellow. And the other occupant has young children who played on the swings. You bought a home back up to a city owned playground. You play in the rain you got to deal with the mud.

I have to say, do not comment and just start pointing fingers because I know of about 5 or 6 different homeOWNERs, not renters that have placed complaints about the kids banging the swings on the metal poles at all hours, and that is a very frustrating noise. I agree, it is very frustrating taht we can't have swings because of a few little brats, because my child would LOVE to be able to go to the park to swing, but in all reality, the fault truly lies on the parents that let their kids go into the parks and destroy them because they do not want to take 2 minutes from their oh so important lives to teach their children manners! Overall the parks will get better, but it isnt a city issue to teach children respect, it lies within the responsibility of the parents! As for a loud muffler, that needs to and should be reported to the city, as this is a violation of city noise ordinance.

I will point fingers, And what does renting and owning have to do with it. The parents have nothing to do with the city either. Can a renter report a problem in the park? I own property in Florida and could buy any house on this street if I wanted to. I would think if I wanted to invest it would not be on John St. So why don't you mind your own business and stay out of mine.

Furthermore if it was not for my funding the owner of this house would not own it. I dare you to bring up owner renter thing.

FYI I been advised the loud muffler thing has nothing to do with the city either. Did you read any of these threads???

Why wouldn't these five or six complaints not put a camera in?????? Then whoever is causing this behavior could be busted for there actions. They are inexpensive now. Oh I forgot if you can't maintain your home or vehicle I guess this would not be in the budget! This is not enough complaints to warrant the removal of the swings. And the landlords pay taxes to and the renters should have use of that park also. The camera is the solution not the swings coming down.

Had to cost the city $2 to $3 hundred in labor for the swings to come down. Is this possibly something the complainants can afford? This is a simple solution. Could we leave this open till this is resolved.

I'm assuming the swings base are made of some kind of metal and are round? Pipe insulators would be another simple way to avoid the annoying noise from the swings coming into contact with the metal. And if it's not against code you could install a noise barrier on your property. If this issue is not resolved I am going to higher Government and donate a camera out of my Company so these kids do not have to suffer for the unreasonable complainants that caused this issue.

Summer is going away quickly! I have suggested a few ways to resolve the absence of the swings at Richards park. I'm sure the GPD could handle any problems with the bad kids that play in this park. They do a very good job patrolling this neighbor hood and is relatively a quite place besides kids playing in the park which should be expected. I have even suggested of donating a camera to see who is causing the problems with no response. I'm confused about the drainage problems at Neider park. Usually these wet area"s are due to low ground or installing under drain which is a simple solution if you have knowledge of running water. I feel that the Richards park matter should of been handled by the city Police. This is a action that makes are police dept look bad which is not true. These are unreasonable complaints.

I would even be willing to help these people in the Neider park Area if it was just low area's that could just be filled graded and seeded. I would not be able to supply material. I have the equipment and liability's to make this happen. I would think there should be some nice material out of the cemetery's if not used for something else. I know of 2 traveling nurses that are Renting with small children. One nurse has bought a house on Oak St already and is still renting till closing on property. The other nurse and her family are renting on Folger St and seem to be happy there.

As this issue is quite old, perhaps it is time to close it? If it happens again, a new post could be put up.
