please do something about this...the minor patching helped with some larger holes, but seems to have created new problem areas as the weaknesses in the street haven't really been addressed. Willow does damage to cars regularly & it's often a near miss disaster for those who park along the road.

I have posed the same a few months ago. Willow is a disaster from Whitney to the highway entrance. What can be done to get the road repaved?? How can traffic be slowed?? Patching the pot holes hasn't worked.

Willow should be redone from Whitney to the highway entrance. Over the winter, the potholes from Whitney to Orange were so large that I would be shocked if there were no damage reports. They have attempted to fill them with limited success. Additionally, it would help with noise issues as trucks, in particular, sound like the beginning of WWIII. A stop sign at Willow and Nicoll would reduce noise, speed, accidents, and assist in pedestrian crossing.

Willow street is littered with potholes and uneven patches of pavement from Whitney to the 91/95 exit. Driving it feels like an obstacle course. It's been beating up my vehicle so much, plus it's an uncomfortable drive, that I take the long way around and avoid it when possible.

I pull out every morning from Nicoll St. to get on the highway and feel like I practically have had to veer into oncoming traffic or dodge someone else this year to avoid potholes

The immediate concern is safety and secondarily expense. With the always-bust Shell station, Nicoll and Willow has an excessive number of accidents--one every month at least including just this past Thursday. Any city department paying attention to the simplest data would see that this needs to be addressed. Between injuries and death, damage to vehicles, damage to homes--last month the entire front porch of one of the corner homes was destroyed when a car swerved over the sidewalk and into the front yard, and a few months prior the backyard fence of another home was smashed by a car that lost control--and the salaries of firemen and police spent responding, the intersection is incredibly expensive as well. Action on this by the city is long past due: new crosswalk stripes and either a full-fledged stoplight or a combination of a flashing yellow and consistent speed traps by New Haven police (which would deter speeding AND bring in a bit of revenue). Get it done, Mr. Hausladen!

a couple years ago at the East Rock Management team meeting the city presented some extensive plans for this area that was supposed to be implemented after the new school was done. I got the impression that the full plans (which included bump outs and curbs on cold spring by the park as well) might have been too costly. was the entire plan scrapped? Can the neighbors be updated on what happened with that plan?

The Willow/Nicoll intersection feeds several businesses, two schools, two major highways, bus/shuttle stops, and several parks and residences. That is a lot of people and vehicle traffic! The quality and quantity of safety measures implemented/maintained at this intersection do not match the volume of traffic. I agree and can relate to the comments made above. This intersection needs some attention!

Traffic goes through so fast, which is even more of a concern because of the two nearby schools and the kids who are always walking to and from. But even for adults, the lack of a well-marked pedestrian crossing is scary. These improvements would really help.

The incidents at this intersection are nearly daily, and it's certainly picked up attention with the area's residents. Why hasn't the city acknowledged/addressed any of these concerns?

Willow Street has been assigned to "road repave" and we will continue to patch potholes as we can until the road is repaved. After repaving, crosswalks will be repainted as well as other measures taken by Transportation,Traffic and Parking.

Thank you Public Works for acknowledging this issue! Is there an expected repave and repaint date? We would appreciate it if Willow St. could be given top priority as it is a high volume road and the lack of crosswalk markings at this intersection make it very dangerous for pedestrian crossing. I would love to know what happened between this post in July and now, in November, with the Willow repave delayed until spring.

Agreed! It's been acknowledged by the Dept. of Public Works, now what?? With the rain we've been getting, it's worse than ever.

We are at 10 months since this post, things have only gotten worse, much worse - what is going on here?

Assuming it can't be done until complete thaw, but it would be great to have a date and know that this is being pushed at the city level. The gravel and stones being thrown up onto sidewalks are creating a hazard for pedestrians.
