Thank you for your request. There are a number of intersections in the city without pedestrian signals and the city is in the process of finding funding to do these. Priority has been given to locations near schools, such as 18th and Dolores Streets nearby, which will be installed soon.
This is a major entrance to Dolores Park. The intersection has a three way traffic signal. Pedestrians have no way of knowing when it is safe to cross.
I cross this intersection every day as a pedestrian, and I've had no problem knowing when it is safe to cross . . . you cross when the cars flowing in your general direction have the green signal. Simple as that. And I have seen a single pedestrian/car accident at this supposedly "dangerous" intersection. I believe that there are many other intersections that are or have the potential to be more dangerous. And I also know from experience that the roads in this City are less safe than any intersection without pedestrian signals. Some of the potholes are big enought to swallow small cars.
