Description

1 - Can we have some "Bike May use full lane. Do not Pass" sign installed on this section of the road.
2- Also the city could do something to educate their officials to "share the road".

I am sorry to say this but today a "Parking authority" vehicle kept honking aggressively and finally passed me within inches and aggressively moved between me on bicycle and the car next to me.

PS: No use in providing you the details of the person who did that. If you install some signs in next 5 years I will be more than happy.

Well, it sounds as if this biker was following the law. But if the scooter was honking, he could have moved over.

I've had bikers swerve in front of me twice in one day. They want use the sidewalk the street and they barely stay in the bike lane. You guys have laws to follow to. Stop causing accidents and use COMMON SENSE. Some of us have car insurance to pay. Do you?

There are rules of the road and also road etiquette; a campaign to enforce and reeducate drivers (and bikers!) to share the road might change the "survival of the fittest/fastest/most aggressive" mindset on JC roads to set a priority of safety and civility. Agree with original user that it should start with city employees and officials - including law enforcement officers - demonstrating lawful and respectful behavior.

However, why does he think it's improper for a vehicle to pass a bicycle that is traveling slower? Bike riders pass cars all the time, and much of the time they do so in an illegal and dangerous manner.

it is ok to pass when it is safe to do. In certain part of the city, the road is very narrow. There is a reason certain places they have placed "Bike May use full lane. Do not Pass" sign.

Safe passing law requires that if you need to pass a bicycle you have to move another lane and do so. If the lane is too narrow, wait sometime and pass when it is safe. Else you risk the bicyclist getting doored.

As part of the Central Ave streetscape project, "super sharrows" were installed in the roadway to add a more visible cue that bicyclists have the right to use the full lane. "Bicycles May Use Full Lane" signs were also added to this street.

Btw it is unclear to most motorists what the "super sharrows" marking means. Even now I do not know fully its significance, so maybe if the city is going to use these markings, which are not universally recognized, they should do a public education campaign at the same time.
