Description
Hillview School bicycle traffic before and after school is very dangerous. I encourage bike riding but having students ride on opposite sides of the road and on sidewalks is going to end up in an accident. The are 9 or 10 streets that come out on Santa Cruz Ave. Many drivers are looking left first when coming to a stop and when it is clear, they accelerate. A bicyclist going in the wrong direction in the bike lane or sidewalk could be struck. I encourage your department to go to the school, educate the students, and enforce for a day or two. This would easily solve, what could be a disaterous situation. Thank you for your attention on this matter. John Worthing

Two days ago I had to take evasive action as I tried to turn right from WB Santa Cruz to NB Arbor at ~3PM 2 days ago because 2 students on bikes were riding EB (against traffic) in the WB bike lane at the intersection of Santa Cruz as I initiated my turn. Another driver preparing to turn right from SB Arbor to WB Santa Cruz was ready to accelerate from the stop sign at the same time. Like me, that driver appeared to be was surprised by the cyclists' quick appearance at an unexpected position on the road as they came from an unexpected direction.
I assume that Hillview's leadership and staff are making students aware of cycling safely, even away from the campus. If so, it isn't enough.
