Just homeless people pose a public health issue and a safety issue? Last time I checked it wasn't homeless people shooting each other. And if homeless people actually live on the green, aren't they downtown residents, too? Or maybe they can be classified as visitors? Oh wait, I see.You are talking about people who are fortunate enough to have a place to live, and have money to come to visit our city.
they are homless, i see you have no dignity. i go downtown alot and walk through the green at all hours and never had a problem with a homeless person. so i dont know where the safety issue comes in.
People with nothing to lose take risks (and pose a threat.) Try being human for once, and forgoing your "experiential" reason. The homeless need to be occupied with work, or otherwise removed from public places.
I've been with my kids quite often at the green and i have notice that its getting worse each day....i have seen people even fighting there and no police around....i guess they are busy gving tickets and dont pay attention to this...
Leave the homeless alone. They're not a public health issue or a safety issue, they're people without homes. Part of living in a city like New Haven, your delicate sensibilities might be hurt by the presence of those less fortunate than you. Deal with it.
Im down on the green all the time, Im in the area daily. They are no different then the rest of the population except they are homeless. Any fighting that happens is no different than the nonhomeless....ive seen many teens get into fights at the bus stop, around the corner and otherwise. So please, lets move on from the homeless - for the most part they are perfectly harmless and if you actually spoke to them, youd find most of them are nice! Haleema - way to go to teaching your children tolerance. And for the record, there are cops around there ALL THE TIME! I see at least 4 walking/standing in the area and they have addressed fighting issues - but they happened to be with those teens I mentioned, not the homeless. Intolerance is unacceptable! If you cant be tolerant then don't venture down there.
1234 - did you hear we are still in a recession? Putting the homeless to work is so easy to say but the follow through is practically impossible. Why? Because there are very little jobs open for starters. If you don't have an address you cant legally work. Shelter addresses are often "known" and pass by their application. Most people will not hire the homeless simply because they have their own poorly viewed opinion on the homeless. So unless you are going to hire them - how about some constructive criticism?
A piece of advice - Do not go to the green ! Most of the park bench occupying folks are homeless, but another issue is the visitors to their homes, the nonhomeless friends and posse who stop by for some wine and crack , since they don't live there they are really disrespectful
