Bike lanes are a great idea when we have the room for them. Get the state of CT to widen the state roads to make room for the bikes. But do not even think of taking room from the cars and trucks already using the road for what it was built for.That would be unsafe. We the cars and trucks that represient todays economy come first .

There are other, safer bike routes from Hamden to New Haven, apart from Whitney. regular bike commuters I know use the Canal Line Trail, even in winter. Another route, that is safer, if you insist on using "official" roads, includes Leeder Hill to Prospect and into the city. That route can be accessed by any number of lower traffic residential roads.

i wholeheartedly agree that this stretch of road is ideal for a bike lane. many people commute this way already, and if it was safer, more people would, which would further reduce congestion.

I agree as well Juli. This issue should really be emailed around to bike commuters in Hamden to see if it can get some traction.

I agree that Whitney Avenue from Hamden into New Haven badly needs cycling infrastructure. Based on this year's ECC survey, it's one of the busiest cycling routes in the entire region.

Bike infrastructure between East Rock and Whitneyville is badly needed.

The Farmington Canal greenway line was created using many many millions of tax payer dollars, It was designed for bike use and goes between the two points you have spoken of (Hamden to New Haven) With tax dollars in very short supply I think we could better use or money for badly needed mass transit. The people of this area have already address this very "BIKE" problem in a safe and green way for all the public to use.
