Description
Taxis and Car services routinely park illegally, perform illegal activities such as taxi maintenance and repairs and in addition many drivers routinely dump large quantities of garbage onto the street and sidewalks while cleaning out their taxis. I have spent the last 2 1/2 years perpetually cleaning up their garbage multiple times a day. I humbly request that CB14 assist in getting the city to upgrade the No Parking sign to a No Standing sign to dissuade taxis and car services from routinely breaking the law. a No Parking sign simply doesn't offer enough disincentives to parking there.
The garbage piling up daily is an incredible eyesore, and I along with many resident's on westminster and glenwood road can not stand to see the large accumulations. Please help!

I have personally seem emergency vehicles try and fail to round this corner when taxis or black cars are parked there and left unattended for a few minutes.
Garbage is a huge, daily issue as well because this spot is so frequently used. Trash and bags of trash regularly get dumped out of standing vehicles.
Upgrading the "No Parking" to a "No Standing" sign might be a great solution to all of the ongoing issues, especially the blocking of emergency vehicles!

Thank you for your response CB14.
Another solution might simply be to follow through on the original request to upgrade the "No Parking" sign to "No Standing." I imagine it would be much less likely that cars would be parked and left for hours if they were in a No Standing zone, which carries stronger penalties.
Is there a way for us to follow up and check the status of this request? Or someone specific to contact? Thank you for your help.

Thank you CB14!
Can you tell us if it might be helpful to continue to post photos of violations here--will the DOT consult this site? I imagine if they see a record of daily issues it will help them to make their decision.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) has informed the Community Board office of their denial of this signage change request. CB14 received this statement from DOT: "This is in response to your July 14, 2014 e-mail regarding your request for a change to the existing "No Parking Anytime" signage to "No Standing Anytime" signage in front of 706 Westminster Road, Brooklyn. The Borough Engineering Office completed a field investigation involving land use and traffic conditions at the above location. As a result of their investigation, it was determined that the curb space at this location is regulated by an existing fire hydrant. Therefore, we do not contemplate any changes at this time."
Community Board 14 will be able to request another study at this location once 18 months have passed (February 2016.) Until then, please continue to call 311 to report any illegally parked cars, litter or other complaints resulting from cars parking at the location. This will assist DOT's decision if you choose to request another study of the issue in 18 months.

Hi CB14.
Happy to keep calling 311 to report the cars. However, homeowners are considered responsible for cleaning up trash in front of their houses, and part of the reason this has become an issue is because the homeowner at this address has been fined for trash left behind by illegally parked drivers.
So unless you want people in the neighborhood to be reporting themselves for a trash violation, calling 311 for trash issues doesn't make much sense...
It does seem that the DOT made this determination without visiting the site to see the situation for themselves, and only closed the appeal because the corner is "already regulated by an existing fire hydrant." Did they understand the request was for an upgrade? Is it really not possible for them to see violations posted on this site if we keep posting them? Thank you.
