Description
Children are at risk of being hit by vehicles! I live at 431 Pacific Ave next to Academy of Alameda. Every morning, I walk my kid to Nea a few blocks away but I witness near collisions and children crossing at Pacific and Marshall. The children and parents are often yelling and honking at each other. Most often, parents dropping their children are the aggressors. It's scary to witness. Please install a STOP sign at the intersection where Marshall Way and Pacific Ave intersect. Please also install speed bumps and cross walks with lights at this crossing so children can cross safely. This should help the speed of traffic from Marshall Way onto Pacific. Also, please install a median. Cars are often crossing over Pacific and blocking oncoming traffic from Pacific.

Thank you for reporting your concerns about street safety in Alameda. This spring, the City will begin public engagement on the Lincoln/Marshall/Pacific Avenue Safety Improvement Project, which will design major improvements for three miles of this high injury corridor from Alameda Point at Pacific/Central/Main to the East End at Lincoln/Broadway. I passed along this report to the project managers. We also encourage you to provide input via upcoming events and surveys. The first community workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 27 at 6:30 pm. Make sure you hear about these by joining the Lincoln/Marshall/Pacific mailing list: www.AlamedaCA.gov/subscribe . Read more about the project and register for the workshop: www.AlamedaCA.gov/Lincoln
Your report will help inform the City of Alameda’s work to achieve our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries. We will use street safety reports, including yours, in combination with crash data and equity indicators to prioritize and design street safety investments. This evaluation will generally happen on an annual basis, with some exceptions for clear and pressing trends. Issues that the City deems to be immediate safety concerns will be elevated for quick action.

Thank you for the quick and thoughtful response. I am very happy this area is being prioritized for safety improvements. I love roundabouts! I will attend the webinar in April and help where I can. I’ve already registered and hope more Woodstock neighbors do the same.

I attended the Lincoln/Marshall/Pacific Safety Project Community Workshop on Apr 27, 2022 06:30 PM. I was impressed with the proposed plan and excited to see the changes in the coming year.
I raised my hand and spoke to the Pacific/Marshall/Lincoln merge. I recommended further studies be conducted in this area between the hours of 7am-8:30am and 2:30p-3:30p. This is the high traffic time when the kids are being dropped off and picked up by their parents. I believe this requires a remedial solution now since there is actively speeding cars, kids crossing outside of cross walks, and obstructed views (trees, acute corners, etc). I would like to see the city address the immediate needs with speed 'dots', painted walk ways, and more signage showing speed limits.
Can the city work on a remedial plan to resolve the danger of this area now until we finalize the bigger project?
