The greenway this weekend was, once again, awash with overflowing mud and water (Sunday, specifically, and there was no rain since Friday). It is an absolute shame developers seemingly feel no obligation to not impact those around them. Increasingly we see these developers damage/destroy things which were there for the town to enjoy before they started ripping down trees and stripping land.

Please take a look at your earliest convenience and perhaps determine why the developer of the apartment project does not have better water retention for their project.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. The Town Inspector for this site conducted an investigation yesterday. The Developer has been made aware of the situation and will resolve the issue this week.

Thank you for your quick follow-up on this matter. Since this appears to be a recurring event, I hope the developer has plans for a permanent solution. If not, I hope the town fines the developer for each and every violation (increasing with each violation). I plan on reporting this same event to NC DEQ as well as there is a waterway impacted, too.

I walked this area yesterday around 2:00 and the path had water standing- went back out around 6:00 and that pathway was blocked to walkers because the water was twice as deep making it impassible. Thank you for contacting them - hopefully they will take care of the problem.

I walked the greenway trail to see the silt and sediment residual in the Wetland Areas as well as on the greenway trail. I will be reaching out to the Developer to get these matters resolved and I will ask of preventive temporary/permanent Erosion Plan to alleviate the complaints on the greenway.

Not fixed (standing water) and now truck tire tracks off the side of the greenway. This developer is not being held to any standard by the town. They should be shut down until the greenway is corrected and fined for driving on the wetlands. What is the town going to do about this, and when might tax payers expect to have their resource back in good shape?

At this time we have instructed the Developer to take a different plan of action to keep the residual of silt and sediment from being on the greenway trail. This action of plan should be already installed at this time, if not I will meet with the Developer on what is there timeline on correcting these actions.

On May 5, you noted that action should have already been implemented for silt and sediment. Although it has not as of June 4. It also appears there is a third meeting to develop an action plan. As of yesterday June 3, the water on the path was flowing. A clear sign that something is dumping water into the wetlands. Again, never an issue till the trees were pulled, rock blasted for months, and disturbing the native soil by extensive excavation work. Please fix, thank you.

This is the 5th time we’ve received this response. Isn’t it time to impose fees/sanctions on on going construction to ensure builder addresses this issue. Is this a health hazard to homes close to the greenway?

The Contractor is in the process of submitting a plan of action for approval by Town of Wake Forest to correct this matter of concern. As the Town of Wake Forest we realize this is a problem for the citizens, again we are working towards a solution.

This section of the greenway has been turned I to a nasty marsh full of mosquitoes and who knows what else due to builder and town ignoring this severe problem. Just imagine the impact to wildlife, the environment, and tax payers right to enjoy the amenities we have paid for with our tax dollars! 😢😢
