Unfortunately the property in question is not park or DPW land and we can not give you permission. We are looking into the best reference for you and will be in touch soon.

The park has the designation of a community garden which was established in 2007. There were associated organizations as well as the city of Fitchburg involved. Has that plot been sold? If so, do you know to whom? I am offering to clean it up/work on it for free. At the moment it’s overgrown and obviously has been in disuse for a long time. I don’t know if the adjacent neighbor ever uses this property but it would appear that is not the case as there’s a clear designation where his yard begins and the other piece of property ends. If the city of Fitchburg could have the soil tested it would be fantastic. If the soil is contaminated by arsenic, lead or cadmium, I could use it to grow vegetables/fruit. If unfortunately it has levels of toxins that are too high, I would simply remove the dirt from the existing raised beds, place netting underneath and fill with organic topsoil (I would purchase). Growing fruits and vegetables is my passion and I am more than happy to share the harvest with the community of Fitchburg and surrounding communities. Also, If other neighborhood residents were interested in claiming a raised bed for themselves, they would be more than welcome. It appears that originally the garden was intended to be a community building space, and I would love if it continued to be so. It’s a pity to see it sitting vacant and unused when it could be getting put to good use, growing a lot of food and building community in Fitchburg. Looking forward to your response. Thanks so much!
