I remember sawing through the sidewalk to put that tree in before the last round of sidewalk/curb upgrades in Fair Haven. The tree was done through Community Greenspace, and could easily be replaced through the same program. FWIW, the previous owner of the home thought the tree would act as traffic calming on its own, by deflecting out of control, speeding cars on Grand from hitting her house. It was the reason for the exact placement of the tree. It worked! (Although permanent intersection improvements would be better!) 203-432-6189 is the URI number. Grab the neighbors and plant a tree!
Thank you for your feedback, David. It's much appreciated. It would be nice to meet you in person to hear the stories of the neighborhood. Are you part of CSNA? As the new owner of the house, I have been working with Chatham Square Neighborhood Association, my close neighbors, Lt Johnson and Doug Hausladen director of the traffic and transportation dpt to calm traffic at the intersection of Grant and Front for several months. I was distressed to see the tree was hit, it was indeed there to protect the house, as you said. I shall follow up today with the community, the city and the police and will talk Chris O. at URI to plant another tree. Thanks again, David.
Thank you David, very useful. I am sure the current owners of 29 will follow up, they are committed to the neighborhood and committed to the continued effort to slow down traffic at that intersection. Lee

It was hit by a vehicle. I reported over the weekend. I hope it's replaced as quickly as the damaged tree was taken away.
I also hope note of the incident is made as it is one more example of the urgent need for traffic calming measures at this intersection.
