I absolutely agree that the whole configuration needs to be changed!

That intersection is a concern. I have met with the traffic commission about the possibility of repainting, however they have concerns. We are also looking into the cost to upgraded lighting to include pedestrian crossing and working buttons. Since the lighting structure is old it can not be updated and would require all new equipment. (Guest or CCH if either of you have a background in intersections, lighting, traffic controls, etc. please feel free to reach out to me I would welcome any expert advice.) I have NO experience/expert knowledge of all the technical aspects involved, but it just seems--to me--to be common sense to NOT have a crosswalk that goes diagonally across such a busy intersection. I live on Meridian Street, so I frequently cross over Main onto Eastern Ave. I NEVER use the crosswalk, but I do utilize the islands. What are the concerns of the traffic commission?

I also have no background in traffic control/signaling/etc, but I honestly cannot understand how anyone thought a diagonal crosswalk with concurrent green lights and walk signal is even a remotely feasible option. I don't encounter any other "solutions" like this one elsewhere in the city (or anywhere, really) and hope the city will take pedestrian safety seriously BEFORE someone is struck at this intersection. Heck, I don't even like navigating this intersection by car, let alone on foot! I'd like to know what concerns the traffic commission has, and what possible solutions they've suggested. I'd also like to know if anyone at the traffic commission has ever tried to navigate this intersection on foot, because then maybe they would be inclined to make a change!
