There have been many, many accidents at this intersection. Check with APD for specifics on each. But generally speaking, eastbound and westbound traffic on Carmel is controlled by a stop sign at its intersection with Barstow, while Barstow traffic flows freely northbound and southbound. Traffic regularly backs up on Carmel in both directions and people try to outrun the Barstow traffic ending up in a crash. Other times drivers completely run the stop sign t-boning cars on Barstow. I'm no traffic engineer, but one fix would be to increase signage on Carmel and prohibit left turns from both directions from Carmel on to Barstow. Right now practically the only way to get through that intersection is to have other drivers wave you in/across.

I too travel this route several times a day. There have been numerous accidents at this intersection. I was fortuante enough to be behind the car that was hit this fall. Then within a month I went by another accident that must have recently happened because the police were yet to arrive. My thought is it ithat the width of Barstow gives the illusion that the cars are going slower than they are for the number of people who pull out at that intersection.

"Has this issue been fixed?". Hardly. There was another accident last week ( that I know of - probably more). I haven't seen a single city vehicle or traffic counters or anything at all done about this problem.

Per the Traffic Division, there is no anticipated installation date. The project has been turned over to Transportation Engineering for design and construction, as funding becomes available. It is close to the top of the list, but not funded in the current bond.

Since last contact in October, there have several more wrecks at that intersection including one last Wednesday. It's a pretty regular occurance and traffic just seems to get heavier there all the time. Something badly needs to be done.

Per the Department of Municipal Development, the City is in the process of selecting a consultant to begin intersection improvements, including a traffic signal. My wife was critically injured in an accident at this intersection in December. She faces lifetime disability now. The city really should not wait so long to do something about this problem.

So sorry to hear, DMW. I've been warning that there would be serious wrecks here and your wife and you now have to suffer because of the needless delays. There have been many other accidents just this year no doubt making this one of the more dangerous intersections in the city. Something needs to be done NOW. Please.
