totally agree!!! At Central and Willard too!! I am one of many moms who walk and bike through these intersections with kids and they are terrifying

While I agree completely that stop signs are needed at these two intersections, there is a larger problem at issue. Cars and school buses travel down Willard at speeds well in excess of the posted 25 mph and often blow right through the stop signs that already exist at the intersections with McKinley and Barnett. Cars traveling down the straightaways at Alden and Central are also often exceeding the posted speed limits. Monitoring speed more closely would be helpful.

This problem has been ongoing since I moved to the neighborhood almost 12 years ago and I assume it probably wasn't much better before that. I have contacted our Alderman to no avail, I've written a letter to our Mayor with no acknowledgement. Unfortunately living on the corner of Willard and Central I no longer want to sit on my front porch as it is extremely stressful, all I want to do is scream slow down! Posted speed limit signs are worthless, it's going to take that fatality to get the attention from the city to invest in four stop signs, two more for Alden and Central Avenues. Sounds easy right? I'm willing to get a petition going and walk from home to home for your signatures and get this ball rolling to avert that impending fatality!!

@Neighbor - Actually, someone (the City, I presume) is monitoring ... though maybe in the wrong place. They recently set up a speed monitoring device outside my house on Alden between Edgewood and Chapel. Ironically, I don't think speeding is that big of problem on our small stretch.

The City of New Haven recategorized this issue TO Traffic/Road Safety in July of 2013, three years after it was originally posted on SCF. Rather than recategorizing it again, install the stop signs please.

I see that the City of New Haven recategorized our issues. I'd like to know does that post remain in an abyss of email they receive in a folder called "Not Now"

The sign placed in the middle of Alden does nothing to stop speeding traffic. Why does this continually get recatagorized and what has to be done to make this happen?

Once again, witnessed a near miss accident at the intersection of Alden and Willard. The City recategorized the issue for the third time 8 months ago. It must be time to either recategorize it again or actually do something about the problem.

I'm wondering if the approval process and traffic studies needed for a stop sign are the blocking force here. There are several of these 2-way stops in the neighborhood that seem to drivers like they should be 4-way (McKinley & Woodbridge, McKinley & West Elm, etc.)

I wonder if a quick solution that doesn't require a traffic study might me adding "Opposing traffic does not stop" signs at these junctions? It won't solve all the problems, but it might be a quick way to help the situation.
