Description

Along Dixwell Avenue adjacent to the Home Depot (Store# 8473) is a streetscape approximately 175 feet in length. The landscaping is in complete disrepair and not maintained. The area is littered with debris, waste baskets are overflowing and graffiti is extensive. The Proposed Landscaping Plants that Home Depot had approved by the Town of Hamden contained 21 varieties of trees, shrubs and flowering plants. Apparently Home Depot is not a good corporate citizen as evidenced by their maintenance of this area. There also seems to be no concern for potential gang activity that might be associated with the graffiti. The Home Depot stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: HD) and is included in the Dow Jones industrial average and Standard & Poor's 500 index. On May 17, 2022 Ted Decker the CEO and President of Home Depot reported the highest first quarter sales in the company's history. Net income in 2021 was $16 billion up from $11 billion and $13 billion in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Given the size of the streetscape, my layman's estimate of the cost associated with bringing this area up-to acceptable community standards is $100,000, and quite possibly more. The cost is something that Home Depot brought upon itself for not maintaining the streetscape. They're money-good to absorb this cost.
