Description
Hi
We had an intense storm last week and many of the neighborhoods mature trees were blown down here at porter acres. Most people have managed to chop and and get rid of the trees but the root balls are more difficult to cut up into smaller pieces as chainsaws will not cut through them due to the entrapped dirt. Is it possible for these to be hauled away ?
Thanks
John

Good afternoon John, boy this is one big tree stump.
I apologize for the delayed response on your disposal options for something this large.
You can contact us at 480-503-6622 to inquire about requesting a roll off box, or your best bet would probably be to self haul it to a transfer station. The info below can be found on our website at https://www.gilbertaz.gov/departments/public-works/solid-waste/bulk-trash
There are two designated transfer stations available for Gilbert residents to dispose of a load of waste up to one ton once every 30 days at no cost.
Requirements to utilize this program include:
A copy of your most recent utility bill. Delinquent bills will not be accepted.
Gilbert resident with valid photo I.D. that has the same name and address as utility bill.
Load must not exceed one ton. Resident will be charged for entire load if over allowable weight.
Load cannot contain any Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). Take all potentially hazardous material to our Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
No appliances.
Transfer station locations:
Waste Management San Tan Transfer Station - 4040 S. 80th Street, Mesa, AZ 85212
Republic Services Mesa Transfer Station - 6711 S. Mountain Road, Mesa, AZ 85212
*Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required by the facility and may be available on-site for an additional fee. Please call ahead to confirm.
Thanks,
Kelli

Hi Kelli,
Yes it’s kept me busy that’s for sure.
I have managed to cut off a bit more of the main trunk so all that is left now is the root system and ball area.
I do not have the ability to move it onto a trailer but wondered if Gilbert would be able to accomplish this for a fee ? I think Gilbert city offers a service for special pick ups and wondered if you have the ability to lift it onto a city disposal truck ?
There are 5 neighbors with a similar dilemma next to me.
Your thoughts are appreciated
John

Hi John,
I can't even imagine the work that you have put into getting this all cleaned up. And having to work on it in this heat hasn't been any fun I am sure.
I can swing someone by there today to look at it, but I think it will fall outside of what we can handle. Our crews can take limbs and trunks that are 12" or less in diameter. Larger material can damage our equipment.
If you aren't able to haul the material yourself, you might need to reach out to someone to haul it for you.
I will follow up once we make a site check.

Thanks Kelli, appreciated.
I have been talking with my neighbors over the past week who understand I am reaching out to Gilbert city as they have the same issue. You will see there are many of us with the same situation as your drive around our neighborhood. They are waiting for my feedback in terms of the outcome of this conversation so a resolution can be found.
Appreciating your thoughts.

One of our team members, Bobby, made a site check yesterday and unfortunately, as much as we would like to assist, the tree stumps and trunks are larger than what we can safely tackle without risking damage to our equipment.
I know you said self hauling wasn't an option, so your best bet might be to hire someone to haul the material away.
Hoping this option will resolve your situation,
Kelli

I will check back in then.
Thanks,

Hi Kelli
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
We would use contractors to assist us but find that they price gouge and / or don’t turn up.
We talked as a community yesterday and if the city is unable to help we plan to have a community meeting shortly to discuss how to handle the situation.
We will be in contact as a community shortly.
Best wishes
John
