Advantage has been informed to have the bike lane accommodated with bike lane closed and share the road in place prior to AW areas.
-------
In reference to guidance to Advantage: It's a very bad idea to instruct Advantage to do this in all cases. Not all streets are the same. In this case, Central Avenue has a few inches of striping "buffer" between the bike and right driving lane. Also, "share the road" on Central Avenue at the Rio Grande River bridge is a bad, bad idea. Much better would be to move the 25 mph sign to the space over the painted "buffer." This will free up the bike lane (as is AASHTO, etc. guidance), especially if the sign could be moved further from a storm grate, and actually add a bit of physical protection between cyclists and drivers.
We all know that these signs are placed directly in bike lanes primarily due to the concern that drivers will hit and damage/obliterate the sign. It can't not be overlooked by the cycling community that this policy puts the safety of the sign over the safety of the cyclist. - Scot
I know it's a construction sign. Under the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (the MUTCD), which governs placement of such signs, they're not supposed to block bicycle lanes.

"Sent detailed email to Advantage Barricades for either 1. relocation, or 2. share the road prior to AW area.
