PSE&G is responsible for streetlight maintenance in Jersey City.
After a pole knock-down, they typically bolt an orange traffic cone to the pole base, which covers the wires and alerts pedestrians.
The streetlight pole and light fixture should also be replaced.

This has been there for months, if not years. The city needs to force PSE&G to fix this obstruction. I would have no idea how to contact PSE&G about this. Doesn't the city has some responsibility to keep obstructions off the sidewalks. If this were in the Grove St. area, it would be fixed.

This issue should be re-categorized to Streets - Lighting.

It's not lighting. It's the sidewalk that has some wires coming out of a square of concrete ON the sidewalk.

The city may pass this complaint off to the county as it is on Kennedy Boulevard.

I looked a Google maps. No light pole is visible and the area of the pole base is obscured by parked cars.
However, the strip of blacktop on the sidewalk at the north end of the APNA store is visible.
The next nearest streetlight poles are at the next corners, Cottage and Newark.
This is undoubtedly a streetlight pole base that has been neglected by PSE&G.

The black wire is definitely live and has voltage on it. The white wires are not live.
The end of the black wire is taped off, so no metal is exposed.
This was done to make it minimally safe after the pole was knocked down.
An orange traffic cone should be bolted to the lamp base ASAP.
The streetlight pole and light fixture should also be replaced.

Agree with Jerseyflea. This should be replaced as soon as possible. PSEG constantly neglects our city and when they do give us attention, it’s to hack up trees beyond recognition.

Someone has moved the wires so that they are now on top of the short pedestal, not hanging over onto the sidewalk. I guess this is better since someone is not as likely to touch it with their feet and get electrocuted. Will PSE&G do something about this or will the city do something?

A light pole got knocked out in 2021 and never got replaced. This is a perennial issue with city/PSEG. I have several tickets open for fallen light poles. Some are 2+ years old tickets.

Does someone from the city contact PSE&G or a responsible person to correct this? Or does the city just note it someplace. If you can get a fine for parking 10 min. too long in a controlled space, PSE&G should be fined for allowing a dangerous hazard on the sidewalk for over a year.
