There are two yacht clubs along Quincy Shore Drive. Both clubs can be accessed from the water by a common channel; however the channel has filled with sand from the ongoing DCR beach maintenance project. At low tide people cannot go back and forth to their boats because the water in the channel is too low. Rumor has it that money had been set aside by the State of Massachusetts to dredge the channel, however within the City of Quincy there seems to be a problem prioritizing the job.
The yacht clubs have members who are working class citizens and retirees. Dues are not high but members are expected to put in work hours to maintain the building and programs. The City of Quincy collects taxes on the boats moored in the harbor by the clubs, however it seems the City of Quincy does not want to take responsibility for maintaining the water way. If the City of Quincy were to facilitate dredging that water way, .construction workers would be employed.

From a safety point of view having the channel open would allow emergency marine equipment and manpower quick access to the city intra structure.
