GOOD LUCK I have been reporting these homeless for over 1YEAR now and the City of Oakland has done nothing to remove them! I have even called the cops when they argue and yell at 3am and nothing gets done
Come on, can't we get this cleaned out? There is active drug sales and prostitution at this location. Plus the public defecation and amazing amount of debris produced. This is not fair for those of us who live next to this camp.
The person in the City of Oakland you need to contact is Joe DeVries Assistant to the City Administrator- Interdepartmental coordinator for homeless encampments. He is also the city liaison to Caltrans. (510)-238-3083 JDevries@oaklandnet.com. You may not like the way the city handles things. The way I look at is to treat them with respect because I would not like there job. I also need some one on our side to keep things moving. He has been very helpful with removing homeless on caltrans property for our Keep Oakland Beautiful team in the Dimond.
I have emailed Joe numerous times and what they have told me is that the homeless are actually on private property owned by city slickers. The homeless are on a little piece of the private property and that's why the city can not really do anything
I have contacted City Slickers to assist in removing the homeless off their property and it's been a back and forth! the homeless people have said that City Slickers have told them that as long as they keep the area clean it is ok for them to stay! CRAZY!!!
last communication that I had with City Slickers they were going to post no trespassing signs and once they were up they could call OPD and have them removed!
Just last Friday I called OPD because the homeless were fighting and arguing and someone actually jumped in truck and crashed with the bus that has been parked there for days, but OPD showed up and was there literally 2 secs and drove away completely ignoring the fact that they were drinking in public, obviously drunk and arguing in public and that they crashed in to another car.
I have tried to contact everyone to help with this issue and nothing has been done
and now since I live right next door I have a RAT issue and had to contract a exterminator and even they said that the rats will not go away due to the garbage being dumped and homeless right next door to me.....
this is just crazy and don't understand why they just can't tell them to move
Sorry to hear that, Fed Up. We got them run off from 28th at Adeline, but it took weeks. Since then, I saw them on Wood for quite a while, piling up the trash. Now they've found a spot near you. Why don't we pay them to move to Montclair?
Joe DeVries returned my email and responded : Thank you, we are planning a significant removal operation in the next week or so. I am coordinating multiple agencies and also awaiting No Trespassing Statements from City Slickers Farms so that the Police have the authority to move people along who are currently residing on their property next to the sidewalk. Our Outreach Workers are already engaging this community to let them know we are coming and they will not be allowed to return. Its going to be messy and imperfect but I expect you will see some positive results very shortly.
I'm telling you that i tried everything I have even offered them money for them to move and their response was that they had too much stuff to move so they wouldn't move!
Honestly i think the problem is the houses that are being made for them we've lived there for 8 yrs and had an occasional issue but never this bad. we've even had our cars broken into 3 times! back to back with in weeks of each other since they have been there.
Tyler, thanks for that information. I will make it a point to email Mr. Devries this evening. I will also email the new head of city slickers, so that she is aware that were watching their support of moving this drug prostitution camp off of their property.
A related development, there was a big drug bust today on 32nd St., two of the locations where the drug camp people by drugs has been shut down. So, perhaps our neighborhood will be less appealing.
I spoke to Joe again and also Ariel Dekovic, Interim Executive Director of City Slicker Farms and we are according to Joe waiting on City Slicker Farms to sign the trespass warrant so Joe can do his job...the small art houses can be dealt with later as that is another issue related to but not dependent on the clearing out of the encampment.
I have Also contacted Ariel and she told me this was going to be all done last week along with fixing their fence and cleaning up their property so it would help with the rat infestation we have.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who is complaining about this situation. It's great to know other nieghbors see the problem and are willing to help fix it!
Thanks everyone!
