Description

Why is there no dog park in the Wooster Square area? I see dozens of dogs every day, confined to leashes, owners looking puzzled, etc. There are several large apartment buildings (Sage Arts, Smoothie, and 360 State) that allow dogs. But there is no place to take them, short of heading out to Hamden or East Rock. I also see plenty of under-utilized park space (across from Firestone dealer on Union St, or the Lenzi playground). EVERY person I bring to New Haven stares at me blankly - you have nice parks, but nobody uses them! And why no dog parks? Dog parks consolidate the refuse, lead to better-behaved dogs who can exercise properly, and also drive up traffic in our parks, which makes the neighborhood safer. Of course, not all dogs are Lassie, nor are all dog owners responsible (which is why the school playground was closed this past year). But this appears to be a no-brainer, given the amount of dog owners in the area, yet there is no dog park.
