A. The lighting is located in the overlook garden in Stevens square neighborhood. The darkness in that area makes it very unsafe at night. We have been waiting for lighting to be fixed for at least 4 maybe 5 years

Case Resolved
This 311 request is for a decorative street light owned by Xcel Energy with shared maintenance responsibilities with the City. This street light is part of a lighting system that is beyond the service life. Due to the age of this system, the underground wiring has started to fail, which is the case for the particular street light(s) you have notified 311 about. Lights with failed underground wiring cannot be repaired under the existing maintenance arrangement with Xcel Energy. Considering the nature of this failure, the City?s street light policy allows the following options: 1. replacement of existing lights with wood pole Xcel owned street lights or 2. replacement with new City owned decorative street lights (with petition and assessment process).
PW Traffic will continue to document the repair information submitted as well as continuing City field inspections. Initial information outreach regarding lighting options has begun, and will continue through established neighborhood groups. For additional information or questions please contact: Joe Laurin 612-673-5987 in MPLS PW Traffic.
