What till Black Friday when it really backs up. Where was Delco Planning and the Springfield Commissioners. Let's hope their workers stay well since Wal mart is cutting their health plans back and increasing their costs.
why is there such a rush to enter and exit. If people didnt block lanes of traffic because they think its their priviledge to be next in line instead of obeying traffic laws there would not be 2/3 of the problems
The customers of wal mart approved it... In fact this pretty much sums up what is wrong with the entire country... these people actually get a vote for president..
First to delcoman: I am a very safe driver and live nearby. We've been fighting this project for over a year, but to no avail. I am aware of the back entrance and we were told by the Marple Commissioners that that entrance was for construction vehicles (although many people including me use it). There is not one other Walmart that has one 1 technical exit and entrance nor is there anyone that has 2.
Second to Marple Guest - Horray for your comments. This is going to be a nightmare and we (nearby residents) were never given information regarding drainage, traffic, etc. The noise, exhaust pollution and congestion will be devastating, let alone more traffic accidents and other "incidents". This is going to impact Route 1 and Route 320 for all commuters that aren't even going to that shopping center. Their daily commute is forever changed. It will put many established businesses out of business. It's all about the money. We tried :(
Third to aldanite - I agree with your comments regarding impatient drivers. However, try to get out of the parking lot from Old Navy onto Route 1. Try it! Good Luck. Has nothing to do with patience. Poor Planning. Poor Judgment. Inconsideration. And it's only been open for a week! God Bless all of our "patience" when the holidays roll around. I'd rather drive to Glenolden then attempt this trip.
I don't understand why all this whining is going on. This was already a Mall. The new WalMart replaces previous stores which were there for years. Those stores attracted customers and did business which created traffic going in and out of the parking lot. So the traffic issue is a non-issue. This WalMart will create something like 500 jobs (last I heard). Are you so self-centered that you would deny 500 people a chance to work just so your commute can be a few seconds shorter? I don't think you are! Stop whining. Get a job at WalMart. You might like it.
all of you people need to stop whining, this is a new store, and all new stores drive traffic for a few months then it dies off. I was in the walmart the first saturday that is was open and I agree, if people would be more polite behind the wheel and have some patience then it would not be so bad. I have lived in this area for years and to tell you the truth, I am glad to have this store where it is. I hated to go to Chichester or edystone to shop at walmart. the back entrance is not just for construction and if you have indeed lived here awhile you would know that. and also living in this area for many years rt 1 and rt 320 have always been a nightmare. quit complaining...or drive to glenolden we don't care
15 year resident. Not whining or complaining, just stating facts. People are being bussed in from many areas to work here, while our fellow neighbors will lose their jobs as local businesses close. So much for that theory. Maybe some of you should have gone to the Marple Township Meetings to learn what was purposely not told to the residents of Marple Township about this project. You really should have done your homework on this one. Why don't you just see what happens and save your comments for a later date. Doesn't matter that it's a Walmart, it could be any supercenter. However, have you ever read articles on how Walmart treats their employees - last place I'd get a job.
there needs to be better access to the parking in back and that entrance. Don't know who did the traffic study for this, but it is way off. Even if there was a path way from the front to the back, that would make a huge improvement. The lot design and lane allowances might have been sufficient for one Walmart, but it is not sufficient for the number of retailers in that area. Don't even want to think about what Black Friday will bring. Poor engineering estimates on traffic and queuing.
This parking lot is a nightmare. I will no longer be shopping at any of the stores in this plaza until something is donw about the entrances, exits, and resulting traffic patterns. It took me 30 minutes to get out of the parking lot the other day. The design/planning of this area was exceptionally poor!
Totally AGREE! We tried fighting this for a year, but to no avail. We were never given any traffic, etc. reports that we requested on several occassions. It's all about money for the township!!! I'm sure our taxes will go up because they now have a few police cars there daily. I know my home value has decreased. I live behind the shopping center and my road is now a thoroughfare, let alone the fact that I can't even get out of my street. For sure there are stores there and at Lawrence Park that will close. THESE ARE OUR NEIGHBORS AND FELLOW RESIDENTS OF THE TOWNSHIP THAT WILL BE LOSING THEIR JOBS! The township only worries about money, not their residents. It's a TOTAL disgrace and I will not shop there. I don't even go to the other stores because it's too hard to get in, get out and park. Thanks for your comment.
I also have lived nearby for over 30 years and I can tell you that the parking lot and the most annoying of the traffic issues have existed for decades way before the Walmart was built. I go there all the time and I rarely have a problem. I was there today and I was in and out in 10 minutes. Can you name five stores that have closed specifically because of the Walmart? In fact name one. According to the newspaper a number of new stores opened in that center only because they knew a Walmart was coming. The center was turning into a ghost town after Circuit City went under. I, and apparently many other locals enjoy the prices and the convenience of having a Walmart close by. Thank you Marple Township for doing the logical thing.
